I have always loved animals and have a passion to help them. After my horse, I'm A Sky Diamond, aka Diamond, died in his sleep at the age of 32, I made a promise to him that I would help all the horses I could in honor of him. I got Diamond as a yearling and when he was 8 yrs old, I was forced to sell him for financial reasons. Exactly one year later I was contacted by a woman who had recently b
ought him from a kill buyer. She then called me back a couple of weeks later and asked me if I wanted him back, and that if I did not take him, she was going to sell him back to the kill buyer. Of course, I purchased him back. I was not prepared for how he looked when I picked him up. My once beautiful, stocky, happy boy was so thin I could see all his ribs, while his back bone & hip bones protruded horribly. He was so weak, he could barely lift his head. I went to him and quietly said "Hi, Diamond." He let out a soft whinny, then rested his head on my shoulder and gave me a nuzzle. I cried, but knew he was never going anywhere again and he didn't. I had him until the day he died, moving him with me wherever I went. I realized at that point that the need for horse and dog rescue was overwhelming. I had to help how ever I could, so I have done it by just taking one or two horses at a time. Now I want to move on to the next level so I can rescue more horses and also start rescuing shelter dogs as well as providing education to the public on proper care of them and the urgent need to reduce the population of both horses and dogs through adoption, spaying and neutering instead of buying or breeding. However, as anyone involved with animals knows, it takes a village to rescue and care for homeless and abused animals. Veterinary bills and feed bills can mount up very quickly. Donations are needed to help my partners and I at Sky Diamond Rescue to maintain the lease on an incredible country facility that we have found, perfect for both horse and dog rescue, just north of Greensboro, NC. In addition to the property lease, we have an immediate need for basics for the farm- shovels, rakes, pitchforks-as well as feed, beds for the dog kennels, shavings, straw and hay for the horses, Vet care for both , and farrier care for the horses. I know this is going to cost a lot to get started, but believe it will be well worth the work and effect. This rescue means the world to me and those it will help. Any amount will help us. Horse & Dog Rescue & Education Center. We believe in the 3 R's.....Rescue, Rehab & Re-home horses & dogs to wonderful loving homes as well as educate the public on the proper care of these animals. The animals will also be used for therapy for high risk kids/youth, first responders and their families, Military personal and their families and woman in domestic violence situations and those with low self esteem, depression, etc through equine empowerment therapy. We truly believe in the power of animal therapy. We hope to also eventually offer after -school care and summer camps for kids. We will rescue those animals who are starved, abused or unwanted. Those animals in shelters (especially high kill) and auctions. They will be trained/retrained and adopted out to loving families. It is in Diamonds honor I started to put this rescue together. The name will be Sky Diamond Rescue & Education Center. We are a non profit status (501 (c) 3)
