𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐒𝐭. 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤—𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬!
While the world turns green for St. Patrick’s Day, true feline aficionados know that March 17th is also St. Gertrude’s Day, the patron saint of cats and their devoted humans!
So, how did St. Gertrude of Nivelles earn her feline-friendly reputation? As an abbess in 7th-century Belgium, she was known for her kindness, hospitality, and deep devotion to prayer. But her connection to cats comes from her association with protecting people from plagues—back in medieval times, that meant keeping the rodent population in check. Naturally, cats were the ultimate solution, and over the centuries, St. Gertrude became linked to their mysterious, independent nature. Many depictions of her in art even feature her surrounded by cats!
So today, let’s raise a glass (or a catnip toy) in honor of St. Gertrude and celebrate the glamorous, mysterious, and ever-enchanting world of cats. After all, if there’s a saint watching over our feline friends, that just proves what we’ve always known—cats truly are divine!
