URGENT: BOTH BACK LEGS BROKEN, SERIOUS INJURIES!
www.angelsrescue.org/donatenow "Save Roosevelt"
Angels, I am coming to you to beg harder than I have ever begged before. I am begging for the life of a cat named Roosevelt. A local animal control sent out a desperate plea - Roosevelt was most likely hit by a car (he has asphalt embedded in his wounds) and has a host of less serious injuries but, worst of all, BOTH HIS BACK LEGS ARE BROKEN. One is so badly mangled that bone and muscle are exposed. Roosevelt had to have rescue and he had to have it right away or else he couldn't be allowed to suffer in a shelter cage – the shelter would have to put Roosevelt to sleep. They were heartbroken at the thought – you see they’d found Roosevelt limping on the side of the road just as you see in the video and when the AC officer got out of the truck, he called to Roosevelt and ROOSEVELT HOBBLED TO THE OFFICER. He willingly went into the officer’s arms. Roosevelt knew how much he needed help.
I think Roosevelt knew that when the sun went down and the temperature dropped below freezing here in Atlanta, between the cold and his horrific injuries, today would be his last day. And he wasn’t ready. How could we let an animal with that much fight in him be put to sleep without trying to get him help? The answer is – we couldn’t! We knew our couldn’t either!
WE RACED TO HIM. He is at the ER vet now. We had no time to post for help or even to think about it, we just grabbed him and headed to the vet. After the pain and suffering this sweet cat experienced, we knew his story could not end at animal control.
This is what we know right now: Roosevelt’s left back leg is beyond any hope of healing. The hip is dislocated. His bone is crushed. There are open wounds leaving bone and muscle exposed. This leg must be amputated. His RIGHT rear leg also has open wounds and is broken and in terrible shape but we hope beyond hope that the doctors can save this leg. Whatever needs to be done – no matter how much it costs – we have to try it, because a cat cannot be a double back leg amputee and have a good quality of life. WE MUST SAVE HIS RIGHT BACK LEG.
The good news is that the nerves & blood supply are intact. IF we can raise enough funds for his emergency care, surgery, and recuperation, he will live a completely normal life once he has healed. He will be able to walk & use the bathroom normally and although he may be more susceptible to arthritis in later years, that can be controlled. He CAN overcome this! But there is SO much to do, and he’s in such bad shape, he may need multiple surgeries.
We ask you sometimes if you can spare your coffee money but in Roosevelt's case, we are begging you to dig as deep as you can for him. We have rarely taken on a cat of this magnitude but now that he's ours, we just can't let him down. Somehow, we MUST find a way. I don't even know how we can raise this kind of money but I do know that we MUST get Roosevelt the surgery he needs & right this terrible wrong so that he can go on to live the life he deserves.
Roosevelt is receiving pain medication and is a little out of it, but is currently resting comfortably in his crate. His left leg is horribly infected and treatment just can’t wait, so we need to raise funds immediately. PLEASE, PLEASE help Roosevelt if you can. It will take so much but we know he's worth it. He has suffered so much and fought so hard, now we must give him the best. Go to www.angelsrescue.org/donatenow and click on "Donate to Cat Rescue". Put "Roosevelt" in the purpose line.
And then please SHARE. Roosevelt needs us ALL to come together to overcome these terrible injuries. His life depends on it. Thank you!!
