Addict. I opened the back door to give Barb treats & he ran into the house, headed towards his catnip plants he had already snacked on in the morning. When I thwarted him, he camped out on the chair, thinking he would out wait me. All I did was move the chair & he decided back to the backyard was the only option. This cat LOVES his nip! 😹

Our hearts are broken yet again. Letty crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We think the second round of anesthesia was just too much for her. She had one of our best origin stories. Summer 2022, **per (who lives in FL) posted about a bunny on the kill list at a shelter for being too aggressive. The shelter? Why the one right here in Orange County California! We were leaving for vacation but I sent the info to hubs….who immediately reached out to find out what was the plan for her. were able to pull her from the shelter & foster her for us until we returned from vacation. And then Letty became a Huff. In the beginning she WAS aggressive-food insecure, had been through awful bouts of GI stasis. But she warmed up. She was curious, fearless (she would jump into other bunny’s pens without a second thought), & became the sweetest little sassy pants. We never know how old our kids are, but we got to love her for a little over 2 1/2 years. Lettuce be grateful we found each other. Hopefully she’s with our other loves, doing binkies over the Bridge 💔

Letty is staying overnight at the vet for extra fluids. Hubs canceled his weekend trip to go out of town. If Letty didn’t want him to leave her she could have just asked nicely, she didn’t need to have medical issues. Holly (pictured), has been grounded to her pen while Letty has been healing her big hole in her face. These girls fight violently when they have run time in the living room, attacking each other through the pens of whoever is still locked up. So tonight we let Holly have run time & she has been running & doing binkies like crazy. Sisters…

Miss Spicy lost her spice but we hope it’s just temporary. Although she did great right after the vet, eating well, this morning we awoke to her having raging diarrhea. Been a bunny parent for about 25 years & have been blessed to never have a bunny go through this…until now. Hubs got her to the vet (& Mommy did laundry because my, so much poo on clothes!) & they did fluids & decided to change one of the antibiotics. She’s got more energy this evening than she did this morning but still not spicy. Looks like the last of the diarrhea is slowed down. Hoping she turns a corner tonight or else she goes back to the vet in the morning. Bunnies are so fragile & their tummies so sensitive. And since they don’t communicate pain or discomfort like other animals you really have to be in tune with any little change. **p

Miss Spicy Pants is telling us exactly how much she enjoyed her follow up visit (butts to you!). But thankfully the vet was pleased with her progress (& also surprised-because he doesn’t know us like our regular vet does-we are excellent pet parents!). Her next follow up is in 2 weeks. Get to keep doing twice daily oral meds & daily medicated gel into her face hole until then. Wish Mommy luck-she’s going to be doing the meds solo for the weekend. The gel is the thing that will be the biggest challenge….but after everything we went through with Rupert, Mommy can totally do this!

Human borrowing the account for a minute. As I watch things literally fall apart & my fear & worry for myself and my loved ones grows, I turn to what I know. Reading has always been my escape, books my safe place. Growing up in a small white Midwest town, I scoured the library and the book fairs for books to learn about the world. Fairy tales from other countries. Books that had main characters that looked nothing like me. And I continue to read to see the world through eyes that are not mine & try to learn & grow. Thank you for having books that some people would ban. Thank you for fighting. Let us and combat the hatred. And I’m going to enjoy my new romance book ❤️ 🌈

Letty did well at her follow up. The vet wants us to do better at debridement of the wound, but considering we are doing lots of new things with this bun, I think we’ve done ok. We are to continue meds for now & she has another follow up next Wednesday when she will have a more thorough exam under anesthesia. Miss Spicy just needs to continue to eat & p**p & we are good!

I did not order extra spicy Lettuce this evening, but that’s what I got. Post surgery, she had not grunted at me-until tonight. And she threw in a bonus bite as well (she has been biting hubs at least twice a day on the shoulder when he picks her up). And for EXTRA spice, she launched herself into P**a’s pen when hubs tried to put her back tonight. Thankfully P**a was oblivious, but geez, Letty! She ate more today & p**ped some good solid p**ps, so she is clearly feeling better. She goes to the vet tomorrow for her follow up.

Last night, Letty p**ped & this morning I was able to get more critical care feed into her this her. Tonight, just as we were prepping all her evening meds, she’s all ‘I’m eating, see!’ As she grazed on parsley, then had pellets. She still got more critical care feed tonight-because we aren’t taking any chances. We didn’t call the vet today since it seems we’ve turned a corner. She’s still super spicy!

Letty is such a challenging patient. Today, no p**p. But when our kids have gotten GI stasis, they are lethargic, clearly miserable, & it’s easier to give critical care food because they don’t fight. But Letty has tons of energy, has been nibbling on hay & treats all day & fights like a prize fighter when we try critical care feeds. We are calling the vet tomorrow to see what they think. We just keep trying ❤️

I did the usual deep clean of the bunny’s pens today. In the morning, Letty was munching on hay & a few treats. After the cleaning she spent most of the day pouting in her litter box (all our buns do this, because we mess up their perfect…mess!). Hoping tonight she snacks once she gets over being mad.
