Our mission:

Litters n Critters Rescue Society is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer all breed dog rescue located in Nova Scotia, Canada. We do not receive grants or funding; we rely solely on fundraising and private donations to help offset the medical costs and any other costs we incur for our rescue dogs. Litters n Critters Rescue addresses the issue of dog overpopulation by spaying and neuterin

g dogs while they are in private foster homes with our rescue. We rescue dogs from Canada (only) who have been abused, neglected , dogs with medical needs and injuries, and those who are at risk for euthanasia due to the fact their families can no longer keep them. We help to educate people on the dangers of dog fights and back yard breeders, as well as educating people on the risks of posting their pets on Social Media as "Free to good homes"
A dog living the best life that a dog should live is what it's all about. About us:
We do not have a shelter; we run solely by the foster care system. Our foster families are thoroughly screened, very experienced and well versed in assessing their foster dogs while they are in their foster homes. Because we run by the foster care system, we can not take dogs with aggression issues, we take the safety of our foster families and their personal pets very seriously and we have to protect them at all costs. Without our foster homes we will not have a rescue. We rescue dogs of any breed, size, age and sex. Saving the life of dogs is our passion, we do not shy away from medical cases, we will help dogs who need surgeries, those who don’t and dogs who find themselves in need of a new family due to unforeseen circumstances. This adorable goofball is Blue and he’s a 6 month old black and tan Coonhound who is neutered and vaccinated, no health issues and an all around great boy.
Blue is a typical bouncy puppy who gets along great with other dogs and would do great with a doggie playmate to run and play with. He listens well and is super friendly but we do not recommend smaller children because he will knock them over.

Lily is a beautiful long haired german Shepherd girl who will be 3 years old in July. She is a typical goofy, bouncy teenage German Shepherd who loves everyone. She has absolutely zero aggression, was raised with cats and would do great in a Shepherd savvy home with someone who has a good grasp on training. We do not recommend small children because she’s a jumper….That’s being worked on, on a daily basis. She’s smart but has a short memory when she gets excited but we we are working on this on a daily basis. Lily really is a dog you will fall in love with at first sight ❤️

Luna is a very laid back, sweet 6 year old Brindle Heeler Lab mix, with zero aggression, who wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and get petted and give kisses. Or lay on the sofa and get petted. When she’s not being petted, she’s laying in the sun, probably waiting for you to come over and pat her. She is simple adorable, raised with cats, and an absolutely beautiful girl. She does have a little extra weight on her, so she will need good food and exercise to help her get her girly figure back. She love to play ball but she would prefer that you chase her to get the ball instead of her bring the ball back to you. She listens well and minds her manners very well and would do great in any home

Please give a warm LnC welcome to Stella, SweetPea and Luv-Luv, 3 absolutely adorable female Puggy Uggy Uggers who just arrived in foster care with Joanne and Paul, our Pug specific fosters.
These 3 ladies are not yet ready for adoption, they all need to be spayed so it will depend on the vet’s availability and we will post them on here when they are ready for adoption, but as we always do, we wanted to post our Welcome to Rescue post so they will feel the love. This is a pretty disgusting picture, isn’t it. Take a good close look at it. Look at the disgusting pigsty these babies are in. Does this picture upset you? It should. This picture was not taken off the internet. It is not AI. It is not altered in any way. It is a real picture that one of our rescue friends took when she was doing reconnaissance at a puppy mill in Ontario. And this picture is one of the “nicer” pictures that she has. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE SUPPORT WHEN YOU BUY AN ANIMAL FROM A PUPPY MILL OR BACKYARD BREEDER.

Now, I could go on and on about how awful puppy mills are and how terrible back yard breeders are. But most of us already know this, or I hope you do. What I want to go on about it the laws that do not protect animals from a fate like this. The laws protecting animals in Canada are too weak. They need to be so strict that something like this picture will land the people in jail and with a very large fine.
These puppy mills are everywhere throughout Canada, they are money making machines for the POS who run them. And yes, they are in Nova Scotia too.
We are better than this. We can do better than this. This suffering needs to stop. The laws need change and we need stricter laws to protect animals and we need it NOW!!!

Hello everyone. This sweet boy is Karter and he is with his Mom and Dad, Wanda and Armel.
Karter is an LnC Alumni boy and was adopted 10 years ago by his family.
Karter, Wanda and Armel did a really cool fundraiser for our rescue. The Parks Health Shop on Gary Martin Drive in Bedford sells locally made soy candles and Wanda had worked with Lauren, the owner, to create a “Grateful” candle and the intention was for this candle to be a charity candle with $1 from the sale of every candle to be donated to a local charity. And they chose LnC as their charity.
We are not only thankful that Karter got an absolutely amazing home and life but we are also thankful that we received a donation of $100.00 from the sale of the candles. That’s ONE HUNDRED CANDLES that were sold with the proceeds going to help an LnC pup. Isn’t that wonderful.
Thank you Karter, Wanda, Armel and Lauren and her staff at The Parks Health Shop for your kindness and support.

Litters 'n Critters Rescue is a 100% volunteer all breed dog specific rescue organization located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We do not have a shelter, and all the dogs we take into rescue are placed in foster homes.
