A few months ago, our flock grew by one sassy, black and white hen named Birch. Introducing a solo hen to an established flock is not easy but this girl was up to the task. After a few weeks, she fit in just like she was always there. She was the sole survivor of a predator attack at her previous home and we were honored to let her live with us. She was best hens with Eunice and well tolerated by the others. Yesterday she left us and I will miss her happy little chirps at tuck-in time. Fly high, Birch, fly high. You were loved.

Memories, happy happy memories. I’ve been working on a personal journal project and going through lots of old photos. Enjoy a few snaps of some of the OG girls of FusterCluck. I’m so grateful to them. They changed my life.

1. Ethel had the fluffiest butt
2. Erma had the best stink eye
3. Lucy was Lucy, she was my heart hen.
4. Martha had the prettiest coloring. And the biggest crop, see next photo.
5. Martha’s pendulous crop leads the gang on an adventure.

Zoe is thinking about going broody. She’s thinking really really hard. Oh wait, she’s broody.
