STATEMENT ON MURPHY AND MILLY
This afternoon I met with the Lost Dogs’ Home to discuss the disgraceful situation involving Murphy and his sister Milly.
While I, like so many in our community at the moment, remain appalled in the conduct of the Lost Dogs’ Home — I am grateful they met with me and heard my concerns.
However unfortunately, there are many vital questions that remain unanswered, but I wanted to provide a quick update of what we know so far:
❤️🩹 The Lost Dogs’ Home is standing by its decision to kill 12-week-old Murphy. They repeatedly cited that he showed signs of “abnormal aggression” but refused to provide any examples of such “adverse behaviours”.
❤️🩹 Murphy, his sister Milly, their brother and mother were picked up as strays from the Casey LGA.
❤️🩹 There was an incident with a kitten with the unknown puppy (not Milly or Murphy) when they were left unattended.
❤️🩹 The mother, Murphy and the unknown puppy have all been killed.
❤️🩹 Milly is the only alive littermate and she is still undergoing so-called behavioural assessments. We aren’t sure what these assessments involve. The Lost Dogs’ Home refused to provide any assurance that they were open to handing her over to a rescue group rather than euthanasia.
My team and I have since sent the Lost Dogs’ Home a list of questions demanding answers about their conduct when it came to Murphy’s death.
Shamefully it’s too late for Murphy, but we will do everything in our power to save Milly — because every animal in Victoria deserves to be safe, loved and cared for.
And importantly, no baby should be forced to pass a temperament test.
The Lost Dogs’ Home says it is their vision to give animals “the best chance of a happy and healthy life”.
It’s now time for them to prove they can fulfil that obligation.
You can write to the Lost Dogs’ Home demanding Milly’s release — but please keep it respectful:
