When Mark arrived from CACC, he was fighting for his life. This sweet 4-year-old black cat had been found as a stray with severe head trauma, and dangerous fluid buildup in his head meant he needed emergency treatment right away.

Thanks to the swift actions of CACC in bringing him to safety, Mark got the second chance he desperately needed. CACC also placed drainage tubes to relieve the pressure and help stabilize him before transfer.

At PAWS Chicago, our expert medical team continued Mark’s lifesaving care. In those first critical days, he was touch and go and couldn’t even use the restroom on his own. But even with tubes in his head, Mark still leaned in for pets and purred nonstop.

With advanced treatment at PAWS Chicago, dedicated recovery support, and the love of multiple foster homes, Mark has made an incredible recovery. Now, he’s the cuddliest boy who loves attention and is thriving in foster care.

Meet Mochi; her little underbite smile could melt anyone’s heart.

This sweet girl came to PAWS from Chicago Animal Care and Control with a severe case of dermatitis that left her uncomfortable and in need of urgent care. Even through it all, Mochi never stopped seeking affection.

Now safe at PAWS, she’s getting daily medicated baths (and being an absolute angel for every one of them), bringing her some much-needed relief as she heals. She still has a journey ahead, but she’s finally where she belongs: safe, loved, and surrounded by care.

Emma came to PAWS struggling to breathe with a life-threatening diaphragmatic hernia, meaning the organs that should have been in her abdomen had moved into her chest. Our medical team rushed her into urgent surgery, and ultrasound played a critical role in helping map her organs before surgery and continuing to monitor for dangerous complications after.

Ferguson is counting on us, and we’re counting on you. Only 2 days remain to help us reach our goal.

This sweet cat was brought to us by a community caretaker who noticed he was friendly, but not feeling well. After coming into our care, Ferguson was diagnosed with FIP, a serious and often fatal disease in cats. Diagnosing FIP can be complex, but an ultrasound machine helps our medical team detect abdominal fluid quickly and get the answers needed to begin treatment.

Time matters with cases like Ferguson’s. The faster we can diagnose, the sooner we can act, and the better chance these animals have.

We’re raising funds for a new handheld ultrasound machine so our veterinary teams can diagnose pets right in the exam room instead of waiting on a traditional machine. This week, we celebrate the incredible volunteers who make our lifesaving work possible. Every walk, cuddle, transport, adoption meet-and-greet, load of laundry, and hour spent helping animals in need adds up to something truly extraordinary.

In 2025 alone, PAWS Chicago volunteers gave an amazing 125,010 hours of their time, helping nearly 5,000 cats and dogs find loving homes. Their compassion, dedication, and generosity are at the heart of our No-Kill mission.

From fighting to survive to finally getting the care they deserve 💛

We picked Frog and Toad up from CACC after they were found roaming the streets of Chicago together at just 5 months old. Both of them were severely underweight and struggling to survive. Our medical team discovered they were cachexic, meaning they had significant muscle loss from prolonged undernourishment. They are also being treated for demodex and secondary skin infections, likely from trying to survive outside.

Now in our care, they’re each receiving the medical attention, nutrition, and support they need to start feeling like themselves again. One thing is very clear, their appetites are strong… especially when treats are involved.

We’re so grateful to Stella & Chewy’s for helping make moments like this a little brighter (and tastier) for pets on the road to recovery!

Bootsy may be small, but she’s fighting a big battle.

After collapsing in foster care, she was rushed to our Medical Center and diagnosed with IMHA, a life-threatening condition where the body attacks its own red blood cells. She’s already needed two transfusions just to stay alive. Now, our team is working to find the cause behind her illness — because with IMHA, that answer can mean everything.

An ultrasound machine helps us see what we can’t: detecting hidden infections, tumors, or other conditions quickly so we can act fast. But traditional ultrasound machines are stationary and cumbersome. Our veterinary team needs flexibility and portability to diagnose conditions faster and begin treatment swiftly. The faster we get answers, the better chance animals like Bootsy have.

Ogden deserves a fresh start and a soft place to land while he heals 💛

This handsome 4-year-old found himself back in our care after his adopter had to relocate. Since returning, we’ve learned he’s been living with ongoing discomfort from a previous surgery that didn’t heal as it should. The good news: he’s scheduled for a corrective surgery this Monday that will finally give him the relief he deserves.

Now, he needs a foster home to recover: a calm, low-stress space where he can rest and decompress outside of the shelter.

Ogden is incredibly smart, housebroken, and does well when left alone. He forms deep, affectionate bonds with his people once he feels safe and secure. Because of his sensitive nature, Ogden is looking for an adult-only home where he can be the only pet, ideally with a yard where he can relax and decompress at his own pace.

He’s been through a lot, but with the right foster, his next chapter can be one of comfort, healing, and trust.
