🎄 FRED’S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE 🎄
Meet Fred, our gorgeous Great Pyrenees who’s living his best life in New York City! But Fred’s story could have ended very differently…
When we first learned about Fred, he was roaming the streets of Mississippi, doing what Pyrs do best “collecting” treasures from neighbors’ porches and yards. Papers, shoes, anything he could find became part of Fred’s collection. Unfortunately, not everyone appreciated his quirky habit, and neighbors were threatening to shoot him.
Today, Fred is safe, loved, and thriving in his forever home in NYC. This photo with Santa capture the joy he deserves—a happy pup who went from being threatened to being treasured.
As we close out 2025 and look toward 2026, Fred wants to remind everyone: May all dogs find a home. Every dog deserves a second chance, a warm bed, and a family who understands them.
Here’s to a New Year filled with more happy endings!

🐾💙 Moon Update 💙🐾
Our beautiful Great Pyrenees girl Moon had her spay surgery yesterday and is taking it easy in her foster home during recovery. As you can see from that cone of shame, she’s not feeling her best right now – but she’s being such a trooper!
The good news? Once she’s back to 100%, she’ll have this handsome guy as her new play buddy! These two are going to have so much fun together once Moon is fully healed.

🧡 Norman! 🧡
This handsome boy was found as a stray in Memphis and visited the vet today to start his journey to recovery. Norman has some health challenges to work through—he’s heartworm positive, has skin problems, and an undescended testicle (cryptorchidism)—but the vet thinks he’s only about 4 years old, so he’s still a young guy with plenty of life ahead!
Here’s the plan for Norman’s recovery: First, we’re getting his skin under control. He’s currently on two types of medication to help him feel better and stop all that miserable scratching. Once his skin has healed, he’ll be neutered. After he’s recovered from that, he’ll begin heartworm treatment. It’s a journey, but Norman’s taking it one step at a time.
Despite everything, this boy is already showing us his wonderful personality. Norman is gentle, sweet, house-trained, walks beautifully on a leash, gets along with everyone, loves all dogs, and is great in the car. He’s going to make someone an amazing companion one day.
Welcome to your new chapter, Norman. You’re safe now. 💚

🧡🧡 FOSTER FOUND 🧡🧡

🚨 PLEASE - WE STILL DESPERATELY NEED A FOSTER FOR MOON 🚨
I’m begging for help. Moon is still stuck in boarding and she’s so sad.

She can’t go to our doggy daycare boarding facility because she’s over 7 months old and not spayed yet—but her spay is ALREADY SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONDAY. She just needs somewhere to go until then and for a short recovery period after.

Can ANYONE foster this sweet girl, even for just a few weeks?

She’s 65 lbs, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, great on leash, loves other dogs, loves everyone, and has zero issues. This is the easiest foster you could ask for—she’s a perfect dog who just needs OUT of boarding where she’s miserable.
Please, if you’ve ever considered fostering, THIS is the dog. If you can’t foster, please share this post. Moon is counting on us and we are running out of options 🙏❤️

So true…Petfinder has been a disaster since the redesign on December 2nd.
Apologies if we have not responded. We are not receiving any emails from potential adopters.

A brief PSA to the pet-adopting public. Petfinder is the juggernaut in the dog adoption world. That site dwarfs all others and rescues rely on it to be able to get their animals before the animal-adopting public.

Petfinder has always been a problematic website and in my opinion, it designed itself into a box from which it could not escape.. It has always been buggy with tons of glitches., but it has been the go to for so long that rescues just don't have a lot of options. On December 2, Petfinder launched what they termed improvements to the website. In reality, this has been the 'New Coke' of website launches and it has been an abject disaster. The mobile site has not been functional, logging in for rescues has been intermittent to non-existent, and adding and removing pets from Petfinder remains a task of immensely frustrating proportions.

If you are out there looking for a new pet, and you reach out for one and you get crickets in response, be kind to the rescue and look for an alternate way to find the rescue and contact them that way. They aren't ignoring you.

If you happen to be a philanthropic tech person with mad skills, cash, and time at your disposal and you are reading this, do the animals a solid and create an alternate site with actual modern features that function. The rescue world will love you.

To my fellow rescuers, we feel your pain and we send you the very best wishes in finding homes for all of the animals in your care. It is wildly unfortunate they did this during the biggest adoption season of the year, but this too shall pass. I salute all of you and remind you that boxed wine exists for a reason. Until then, pull the blankets back over your head and come up with Plan 27 for all the animals in your care.

Meet Luna, a 1½-year-old purebred Yorkie who desperately needs our help! This 7-pound sweetheart is as gentle as they come—she loves everyone she meets, both people and dogs.
Luna has zero medical history. She’s never had vaccinations, hasn’t been spayed, needs a heartworm test, and has never been on preventatives. She also needs housetraining.
We can only rescue Luna if we raise the funds to cover her medical care first!

🆘 URGENT: 6 Boxer/Dachshund Mix Puppies Need Memphis Foster Homes NOW 🆘
Last night we received a heartbreaking call for help. An elderly lady with dementia has been caring for these 6 precious boxer/dachshund mix puppies, but she can no longer keep them. The pups are only 5 weeks old right now and desperately need foster homes.
The current windchill is 10° and tonight’s low will be 15°. These babies will not survive outside.
Look at those sweet faces—they need YOU!
These babies are too young to be on their own. Without fosters stepping up, we have nowhere to place them.
Foster Requirements:
• Puppies are 5 weeks old and already eating wet canned food on their own
• Just 2 - 3 weeks of fostering needed
• Mercer Animal Rescue provides EVERYTHING: food, supplies, vet care, crate—whatever you need
