Where to even begin??
Meet, Ricky - your neighborhood dirtbag (Rick’s humans and I agree on this). 😅
Ricky is a basket case, a panic at the disco type of hot mess. Ricky doesn’t want you to touch him. And yet, he does. But only on his terms and his terms change depending on the phase of the moon, the treats in your pocket and the whatever level of trash talk he feels like delivering. 🤭
We were hired by Ricky’s family back in March to get to know Ricky enough that he would allow us to stay with him while his family travels this summer. We started out 1x a week and now meet 2x a week. We have gone from only being allowed in the house after a very reactive not-so-welcome party, taking treats reluctantly and just merely existing together. We are over 2 months in and we can enter the home with no one else present, sit together, take treats and share scratches!
Ricky is the boss of his progress and it really has been an honor to learn with him. I still cannot leash him without him lunging with a warning shot; this seems to be a trauma point from whatever his puppy past hides the silver lining, is with a little warm up time, he allows pets and scratches. We will get there, I know that. 🤍
I am no professional trainer. But what I have to offer is patience, time, observation, direction and a little stubbornness because I do believe Ricky has it in him to trust. We look forward to sharing this journey!
