Paws On Planes Inc. or international. Welcome! I’m Alison, the founder of Paws on Planes Inc.

Alison Ruggio | Dog Travel Trainer
At Paws on Planes, our mission is to provide Service Dog Handlers and Pet Parents the training and resources to confidently travel with their dogs - across the U.S. My journey began with my service dog, Luciano, who transformed my life and inspired this business. During a difficult period caring for my mother through her battle with cancer, Luciano became my life

line, helping me manage anxiety and depression. Recognizing the profound impact of psychiatric service dogs, I set out to empower others to experience the same support. With years of travel experience and a passion for mental well-being, I’m dedicated to making your journeys with your service dog stress-free and fulfilling.

One of the most common questions I get is: “What’s the best breed for a service dog?”
And here’s the honest answer… It depends.

I just published a new blog post breaking down:
• Which breeds are commonly successful as service dogs
• Why Labrador and Golden Retrievers are often chosen
• When smaller breeds can be a great fit
• Why temperament testing is more important than breed alone

If you’re in the “thinking about getting a puppy” stage — or wondering if your current dog could qualify — this is a must-read.

Airports expose weak training.
The airplane seat footprint test — can your dog pass it?
If your dog can’t tuck, don’t book yet.

Before you book that flight, ask yourself:
Can your dog calmly:
• Settle under a chair extendedly
• Stay tucked within a small seat footprint
• Ignore rolling suitcases + food smells
• Remain neutral to strangers walking inches away
If not — you’re not flight ready yet.

How to Actually Train the Tuck
✔️ Start with a box or suitcase
Reward: look → two paws → four paws inside
✔️ Add a “Down” inside the box
✔️ Gradually use smaller boxes to refine compactness

Then generalize:
• Practice in the car footwell
• Teach “Under” with a mat target
• Add chairs + tight spaces
• Build duration before distractions

Short sessions. High-value rewards. Calm energy.
This is how you create a dog that fits confidently — not accidentally.

If your dog can’t tuck yet — don’t panic. Train.
My Ready for Takeoff™ Service Dog Travel Training Course walks you step-by-step through:
✔️ Foundational obedience
✔️ Public access skills
✔️ Task reliability
✔️ Real-world airline prep

At Paws on Planes, we don’t just prepare dogs to board flights. We prepare them to handle travel well.
That means:
• Structured public access training
• TSA and airport simulations
• Extended settling practice
• Nervous system regulation
• Recovery strategies after long travel days
• And yes — long-term wellness support

Did you know?
Red and near-infrared light interact with mitochondria, the structures inside cells responsible for producing energy. When cells receive this light, they can:
• Generate energy more efficiently
• Improve circulation
• Reduce inflammatory signaling
• Support natural repair processes

This isn’t forcing the body to heal, it’s helping cells function the way they’re meant to. If you’d like to dive deeper, we highly recommend learning more by veterinary laser therapy pioneer Dr. Ron Riegel and light-therapy expert Jackie Jolie.

If you’re currently looking to build your dog’s training foundation, our Service Dog Travel Training Program focuses on the real-world travel skills that show up on travel day and the wellness tips that help both you and your dog feel steady and prepared.

Because healthy & resilient dogs travel better.

Red Light Therapy for Dogs?
Travel-ready dogs aren’t just obedient.
They’re biologically healthy.

But here’s something most people never think about:
Historically, animals lived outdoors. They received full-spectrum sunlight daily.

Today, many dogs:
* Experience sunlight indoors filtered through windows (which block therapeutic wavelengths)
* Spend winter months with minimal natural light exposure
* Live in apartments with little to no direct sunlight

Why does this matter for travel?
Because airports test more than obedience. They test resilience.
* Long layovers.
* Crowded terminals.
* Unfamiliar environments.

Let’s talk about dog wellness and what you can do to have a healthy and resilient pup:
Red Light Therapy for Dogs

If your dog struggles to recover after travel days or seems inflamed or fatigued, it may not be a discipline issue. It may be a support issue.

Paws on Planes has a new blog post connecting dog wellness, light exposure, and travel performance — and how these fits into the bigger picture of preparing dogs for travel.

“ I think we’re ready.”
That sentence has cost people thousands of dollars in canceled international travel.

Here’s why:
• The Animal Health Certificate has a strict 10-day issuance window.
• It’s single-use.
• Airline approval is separate from government paperwork.
• And “my dog is well-behaved” is not the same as airport-ready.

Europe in 2026 comes with tighter enforcement. Not new panic — just less room for error.
The real travel game changer? Training.

Can your dog:
— Settle under an airplane seat footprint for hours?
— Stay neutral in chaotic terminals?
— Recover quickly from sudden noise or crowd pressure?
— Relax in unfamiliar hotels after long travel days?

If you’re serious about being truly prepared, my Service Dog Travel Training Course gives you the structured system to build these skills before wheels up.

Stop hoping it goes well. Train for it.
