For the past 2 weeks we have been delighted to welcome Josie back to Fellowes Equine for her Equine placement. As a final-year student at the University of Bristol, Josie joined us to gain valuable hands-on experience and further develop her clinical skills alongside our team of experienced vets. Her passion for equine medicine and eagerness to learn have already made a great impression, and we’re excited to support her on her journey toward becoming a qualified vet. We wish Josie all the best in her final year!

“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend some time at Fellowes Farm Equine Clinic as part of my studies. A huge thank you to the team for being so welcoming, supportive and taking their time to share their wealth of knowledge and experience with me. I cannot wait to build on this experience going forward!”

Fellowes Equine were pleased to hear the mini’s had a wonderful time at the badge rally last Friday and our measuring stick, stickers, games and did you know fact sheet went down a storm for our potential vets and nurses of the future.

A day in the life of Dr. Hannah Briggs at Fellowes Equine Clinic.

Fellowes Equine Clinic is a busy and friendly place where top-notch veterinary care meets a genuine love for horses. One of the key members of the team is Dr. Hannah Briggs, a Senior Associate with a special interest in lameness and rehabilitation. Hannah holds the RVCS Advanced Veterinary Practice Certificate in this field.

Hannah's day starts bright and early with clinical rounds. The team gathers to check in on the horses staying at the clinic and to go over the schedule for the day. Everyone pitches in with ideas - vets from different areas of expertise work together to make sure each horse gets exactly what it needs.

The first case on Hannah's list is a dental followed by a case requiring Hannah to perform ultrasound to monitor the progression of how a suspensory ligament is healing. Every detail is noted in the horses record.

Later, the focus shifts to a more challenging lameness case. Hannah watches the horse move, performs flexion tests and uses nerve blocks to pinpoint where the pain is coming from. X-rays help her take a closer look at the bony structures inside the leg. Once she has a clear diagnosis, she finishes the session with a sterile joint injection while the horse is sedated to reduce any pain and improve the lameness.

Somewhere in between, there's a quick lunch and time set aside to catch up on notes, update treatment plans, fill in insurance forms, sign off prescriptions and talk to owners about how their horses are doing. Hannah also has close communication with physios and farriers to discuss treatment plans on patients.

Its a full-on but rewarding day, mixing hands-on work with high-level diagnostics and constant teamwork - all to make sure every horse at Fellowes Equine gets the very best care.
