LUCKY NEWS!! The beautiful Boxer mix pup that was rescued after she had been hit and then turned away with a crushed pelvis and broken femur by her previous owner, has now healed so well after her repair surgery that she was finally medically cleared by her Arrow Fund vet for ADOPTION by a family that adores her!

Lucky, now named Alice, has her own family to love with human moms and a 13-year-old boy sibling, an older puppy sibling named Elvis to play with, and a few kitties who have become nap buddies.

“We are completely in love!” her adopter exclaimed. When Alice’s adoption papers were signed at The Arrow Fund offices, her human brother asked if he could add his signature to adopt Alice as his, too. We happily said yes.

“She is growing like a giraffe, and is settling in quite well. Alice sometimes looks at the kitties up on the bed and whines for them to come play, not realizing that they’re cats, not dogs,” her adopter laughed. She also mentioned that the cats are always willing to settle down comfortably for naps with Alice, though.

Please help us congratulate Alice and her new forever family!! She is surrounded by a family who cares deeply for her well-being, and we can’t wait to get “Alumni Updates” about Alice in the years to come!

If you have also adopted an Arrow Fund rescue, please feel free to send us current photos and let us know how they’re doing! We love updates! Send your pics and notes to: [email protected]

The Arrow Fund expresses gratitude toward Thom Ham for 12 years of service, leadership as he steps away from Exec. Dir. role

LOUISVILLE, KY (April 2025)—The Arrow Fund (TAF), a Kentucky nonprofit dedicated to healing abused and severely neglected animals through medical care, advocacy, and education, announces that Thom Ham will step down as Executive Dir. of the 501(c)3 organization at the end of April, but will remain in active support of its mission and rescue efforts through various TAF events and volunteer duties.

“We profusely thank Thom for his 12 years of dedication and leadership for The Arrow Fund, and are happy to say that he will continue to be a part of our efforts through many volunteer opportunities,” said Leigh Anne Ferreri, TAF Board Chair.

“The Arrow Fund and the animals we rescue are part of my heart and always will be,” said Ham. “While I want to focus again on my experience, education, and background in the greenhouse and horticultural industry, I am now and always will be a HUGE supporter of TAF and its mission. The Arrow Fund can always count on me as a passionate volunteer.”

The Arrow Fund, Inc. was officially founded in March of 2013, not long after a Black Labrador was intentionally shot and found wandering through fields in Eastern Kentucky with the hunting arrow still deeply embedded into his body. At the time, no organization in the state specialized in rehabilitating severe cruelty cases, especially those needing specialty veterinary care. That dog’s rescue, rehabilitation, and success led to the formation of a unique animal rescue organization—The Arrow Fund. The group has also worked to create public awareness of the ongoing problem of animal cruelty and need for better animal welfare laws in Kentucky.

Since 2013, TAF has helped approximately 600 animal victims move from a life of terror to a life of healing and comfort. Those animals that were unable to recover from catastrophic damage inflicted by human cruelty were given a humane passing, surrounded by care, and finally shown that love existed for them.

As the TAF Board begins the process to identify a new director, they also want to express a sincere gratitude for Ham’s passion and outstanding service to the organization and the many animals that have been rescued over his tenure.

Those interested in the Executive Director position should email a resume, related experience, and any questions to the TAF executive committee at [email protected].

Please do not ask questions under this post. ALL inquiries about the Executive Director role should be emailed to [email protected].

Please join us in thanking Thom for his many years of dedication and service to The Arrow Fund! We look forward to counting on him as one of our passionate and wonderful volunteers at many upcoming events! 💜💜💜

Happy Tails! Daisy has been adopted!!

We are bouncing with excitement to let you know that Miss Daisy (now named “Lottie” which means “free woman”!) has found a loving, forever family of her very own! Lottie, who had been previously starved and bred over and over in her earlier life of extreme neglect, now can’t stop smiling. Neither can we.

Her new family includes wonderful humans Cindy and Gary and two new canine siblings: Dusty (held by Gary) and Penny (another Arrow Fund rescue!).

“Lottie is very smart and oh-so sweet. Turns out she follows commands of sit, stay (for just a bit), lie down, and come. We have a trainer who will start working with all of us on Monday. She had some anxiety at first, but is much calmer now. I understand the anxiety she experienced, and my heart aches for her. All of that said, I am so glad she landed here in ‘Scheldorf Woods.’ I know she has sweet, loving, loyal innards. She is still in recovery mode. Rest assured, Lottie will be loved a lot, be safe, and be well cared for,” Cindy wrote. “Thank you for all you do through The Arrow Fund. So many critters and humans have found their way to each other and are feeling the love.”

Thank you to our Arrow Fund family for donating, sharing, caring, and loving these beautiful animals with us. You give pets like Lottie, whose existence began with severe neglect, a chance for a beautiful ending to her life’s story.

Congratulations, Lottie!! We are ALL so happy for you! 🩷🩷🩷

UPDATE ON THUNDER: This sweet boy, named Thunder in the midst of terrible storms across the state, became a part of The Arrow Fund family as a desperate rescue after he was thrown off a bridge in Southern Kentucky.

Thunder was then rushed to Metro Vet Specialists in Louisville, where X-rays revealed that his two front legs had been broken in humeral fractures caused by the traumatic impact from the fall. His right front leg required 12 screws, 20 pins, and K Wire (Kirschner Wire); his left front leg required 13 screws, pins, and K Wire during emergency surgery. He also began a regimen of antibiotics and pain meds to help him rest and begin the slow healing process.

Thunder was loved so much by the medical staff that The Arrow Fund was asked to wheel him around the entire hospital before leaving so that the whole team could kiss this amazing boy and say their goodbyes before he left for gentle Arrow Fund foster care. Thank you to a wonderful foster for stepping up to take such great care of him! You allowed us to say yes to rescuing Thunder as quickly as possible!

This boy is truly one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever met, and we’ve met many wonderful canines over the years. Our wonderful Arrow Fund family of supporters helped save him with your shares, your care, and generosity. You helped save Thunder from sure death.

Bless you ALL for your love of this beautiful creature whose life will be transformed from the unimaginable terror of being tossed into the abyss by someone he most likely trusted (because Thunder loves all people) into a life filled with gentle care, all of the “good boy” pets and ear scratches he will ever need, and the security of knowing there’s no need to fear tomorrow.

On behalf of a big puppy dog with sad but loving eyes, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thunder’s emergency surgery was very expensive, and we still need your help to pay back the medical care he needed to save his life. Please donate if you can—we appreciate any amount. Truly. And thank you again. ❤️❤️❤️

PATTY UPDATE: We are so glad to let you know that dear, tiny, skeletal Patty—found begging for food outside an apartment complex, her mouth and nose exposed with horrific, open wounds—has discovered that life filled with love and care can be pretty great.

Our medical friends helped Patty’s body begin to heal after repairing extreme trauma to her face; our generous Arrow Fund family made it possible for us to say yes to Patty’s medical intervention and provide her with plenty of nutritious food so her emaciated body could begin to gain weight at a healthy, slow pace; and an amazing Arrow Fund foster stepped up to share her home and give Patty the daily love and care she so desperately needed.

It moves us to tears to see the strides this little kitty has made. This scrappy girl may have a long road to complete recovery, but Patty’s soulful, emerald eyes convey that spark of bright hope that kept her going, even in the darkest of days.

Her foster remarked about Patty’s endearing personality and drive to find food, which most likely kept her alive when all odds were against her. “She’s so sweet and cuddly, lying around in our laps when she’s not hunting around for more food. She likes to sneak away to try to get all the food in the house, lol. She tries to take our food, too! She even likes to ‘help’ me play games on my computer!” her foster laughed.

Patty is now healing, eating well, exploring, safe, loved, and gaining steadily because of you and your care of innocent creatures in desperate need of help. Amazing people like you make these kinds of animal love stories possible.

On behalf of the little kitty who never stopped believing in the kindness of strangers, THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU!

Once Patty heals, is healthy enough to be spayed, and is given the “all clear!” by her vet team, she will need her forever person. If you’re the person for Patty, please fill out an adoption form so we have your interest on file: https://thearrowfund.org/our-animals/adoption-application/

LUCKY UPDATE: We are so glad to share with you that Lucky (the pup that was severely injured, in agony, and then turned away by her owner) just had her vet checkup, and this beautiful Boxer mix is healing well, received her vaccinations today, and has grown to a healthy, perfect 25 lbs.!

In three weeks, this snuggle puppy will go back to the vet for her vaccination boosters, and will soon be scheduled for her spay surgery. Lucky loves tucking herself up against her foster family; has twinkly, expressive eyes; is smart and oh-so adorable to watch play; and simply adores the other rescue dogs in her foster’s home.

She settles down with a chosen member of her foster pack in the evenings, and most often can be found snoozing contentedly beside the “grandpa” dogs who don’t seem to mind giving her a sweet hug right back.

Lucky is doing so well that she will be looking for a forever family soon to love and care for her after she is spayed and given the “all-clear!” from her vet.

If interested in adopting Lucky:

EMERGENCY INTAKE: This is not the news we would ever want to have to share with you, but The Arrow Fund was contacted about providing emergency help for a dog that was thrown off a bridge in Southern Kentucky.

A witness saw what happened, and authorities were contacted. The dog was rescued, and it was discovered that the impact from the fall broke both of his front legs. There were not resources available in that area to help him, and we went to work immediately to find a foster so we could say YES, we will help this poor baby!

It is our understanding that law enforcement in the area where he was seen being thrown from the bridge is investigating this horrific act by a cruel person or persons, but we do not have more details about their investigation at this time.

This tri-colored Shepherd mix has the sweetest, saddest eyes, is deeply grateful for any kindness he receives, and seems to be full of love toward humans.

Because he was rescued from misery in the midst of some of the worst storms in Kentucky, we have named this sweet boy Thunder.

The Arrow Fund was able to rush Thunder to emergency veterinary services, where he is being evaluated and made more comfortable with pain medication. Even with broken legs and having survived such a traumatic experience at the hands of cruel humans, this boy, who was unable to move or support himself on broken legs, sweetly wagged his tail non-stop at the sound of soothing, kind words said to comfort him.

Know we will do everything possible to make sure this handsome, loving boy never knows anything but gentle hands, loving touches, amazing care, and lots of love for the rest of his life. From this day forward, he will feel the love that pours out so freely for innocent animal victims of abuse from our entire Arrow Fund family.

Please help with Thunder’s medical and foster care if you can. We are not sure what he will need to recover at this point, but have promised him he will never know cruelty again.

Thank you for all you do to help us save innocent animal victims of abuse. ❤️
