I was reading up on Bobcat Fever and Wave’s condition. I am so thankful for my staff at Tortitude and how quickly they saw signs of illness. We may have only known her a few hours, but she has made a huge impression in our hearts.

AI Overview

Bobcat Fever
The incubation period for bobcat fever (Cytauxzoon felis) in cats is typically 5-14 days after being bitten by an infected Lone Star tick. Symptoms usually begin to appear within this timeframe. The disease progresses rapidly, and death can occur within a few days after the onset of fever if left untreated.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Transmission:
Bobcat fever is transmitted to domestic cats through the bite of an infected Amblyomma americanum tick, also known as the Lone Star tick.
Incubation:
The parasite Cytauxzoon felis multiplies in the cat's body after the tick bite, with symptoms typically appearing 5 to 14 days later.
Early Symptoms:
Initial signs of infection include lethargy, decreased appetite, and a high fever (104-106°F).
Progression:
If not treated, the disease progresses rapidly. Cats can develop anemia (pale gums), jaundice (yellowing of the skin), and respiratory distress. The spleen, liver, and lymph nodes may also become enlarged.
Late Stage:
In the final stages, cats may become hypothermic, develop seizures, and lapse into a coma before succumbing to the illness.
Rapid Progression:
Once symptoms appear, the disease can progress to death within a few days, emphasizing the need for prompt veterinary care.

May we all have a blessed week. ♥️♥️
