Before every ride, take a moment to thoroughly check your horse’s legs. Feel for heat, swelling or sensitivity and look for cuts, scrapes or changes in skin texture. Early detection of even subtle changes can prevent small issues from becoming serious injuries. A quick daily check is one of the simplest and most effective habits to protect your horse’s soundness.

When buying a thoroughbred, whether for racing, breeding or sport, ensuring your horse is in peak health is essential. A thorough pre-sales vet check is the best way to ensure you're making a sound investment.

A pre-sale check includes a comprehensive examination of the horse's physical health and medical history. It provides insight into potential issues that could affect the horse's performance or longevity, saving you from unexpected expenses and disappointment down the track.

Completing a foal ossification study to assess your foal's stage of development is a pivotal step in proactive veterinary care. Early detection allows for targeted intervention, safeguarding against potential joint complications and ensuring your foal becomes the athlete of tomorrow.

Foals born prematurely are prone to having tarsal/carpal bone collapse. A simple radiographic study can reveal how mature the bones are and if the foal needs to be confined to allow the bones to calcify further. A vital step in thoroughbred breeding, we also recommend for you performance horse stock to help aid in your foal in becoming a future athlete.

Shockwave therapy, also known as ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy), is an advanced and effective treatment for various equine conditions.

This non-invasive therapy is beneficial for tendon injuries, sesamoiditis, non-union fractures, proximal suspensory ligament desmitis, suspensory branch attachment issues, back pain, including kissing spines, and muscle damage.

By promoting healing and reducing pain, shockwave therapy can significantly improve your horse's mobility and quality of life.

For more information on how shockwave therapy can help your horse, contact our team on 0417 396 511 to book in a consultation.

Care doesn’t end after our call out. We are invested in maintaining a long-term support plan for rehabilitation cases to ensure your horse is improving and progressing as planned.

During on-farm visits, we will re-evaluate the horse at its rehabilitation stage which may involve a workup (pictured.) Our vets may also be able to perform additional therapies to assist in the healing process.

If you have a lameness or rehabilitation case, we would love to discuss which treatments might be best for your horse’s plan.

Treadmills can be an important diagnostic tool in identifying why performance may be lacking. We can use the treadmill to watch footfall at pace, watch for straightness and fluidity through the back and hind quarters and also check for breathing and airway obstructions via scope.

We also use treadmills for rehabilitation work as they offer controlled, consistent, and measurable training sessions. We can monitor and adjust speed, incline, and duration to tailor workouts specifically for each horse's needs, dependant on injury.
