Sometimes I sit and wonder about this woman who practically stole my male rescue pigeon. An old dutch cappuchine breed, around 3 years old...I had to find him temp homing due to liver failure and some other complications...Then she had the audacity and threatened me when I tried getting him back, after my health was on the mend.

I wonder if she regrets being a horrible being and refusing to listen to me when I was trying to inform her of the genetic disabilities he has. I wonder if she is now regretting her attitude and the fact she has to spend quite some ยฃยฃ on him due to her ignorance. Or did she simply put him down? Poor Puffy boi.

Note: do not trust every private/self emplyed "rescue person" online. This one in Norfolk certainly has a rep. Not sure she/he operates anymore but it's a kind reminder that if you need an animal fostered or rehomed, do a background check or two ๐Ÿฅฐ

Local Rescue, Lancaster Area

Hello, I'm Ren, a bird rehabber in the local Lancaster / Morecambe area, with ties to our rescue based in Ipswich. I normally rehabilitate sick or injured birdsโ€”mainly pigeonsโ€”but occasionally Iโ€™m able to step in and help with other species when needed.

Today, I was told that a magpie had been living inside a big name store for around a month to six weeks. The person who informed me was concerned that pest control might be brought in and that the bird could potentially be put down.

After speaking with several staff members, I got mixed information: some believed pest control would simply try to catch it, while others werenโ€™t sure what the plan was. Because nothing was confirmed and I didnโ€™t want to risk the birdโ€™s life, I asked security for permission to look around the store and try to locate or safely catch the magpie, with the help from the person that brought it to my attention.

I want to make it clear that Iโ€™m not a professional bird catcher, but I do my best to help wildlife when I can. My main role is taking in and caring for sick, injured, or vulnerable birds that need short-term rehabilitation before being released.

My hope in sharing this is simply to let people know that there is help available locally for birds in trouble. If you see a bird that seems sick, injured, trapped, or in distress in the Lancaster / Morecambe area, please feel free to reach out, I may be able to help personally, or a member of our team can try to help or direct you to the right rescue.

Local wildlife deserves kindness, and together we can make sure they get it. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•Š

Did you know that there are teams of dedicated people who seek out birds (mainly pigeons) who have string foot. This is where they get something caught around their toes which cuts off the blood supply and eventually it can result in them losing their foot. These volunteers capture the bird, remove the debris and treat the wound.

Twenty four of us met up at Green Park including seven new pigeon loving members!

It was a very busy day in a very busy area and as well as destringing lots of pigeons in both parks, a goose was also helped!

As often happens, we picked up a number of poorly patients along the way who needed to come into the care of our wonderful rehabbers so we had a very productive day.

We met lots of kind people who were interested in what we were doing and were keen to watch and see the huge difference destringing makes to these pigeons lives.

It was a great day!

Lots of happy feet! ๐Ÿฉต

All goodbyes are hard, this one is going to hurt a little more.

Lesley, thank you so much for the amazing 6 years working for Pudgeโ€™s Flock; the many birds you rescued, the many people you helped out and mostly thank you for being there through all the ups and downs.

You took on so much, and touched a lot of lives! Hope your journey from now on out may still be full of adventures and kindness that you showed over the years.

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š
Lesley Starbuck you are a legend and we're all going to miss you, happe endeavours!! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

๐Ÿ•Š Welcome to our newest rescue! ๐Ÿ•Š

Weโ€™re excited (and a little emotional) to introduce the newest member of our feathered family here in our Morecambe location, a brave little pigeon who came into our care this week.

Heโ€™s currently battling avian pox, a viral disease that causes wart-like growths on the unfeathered parts of a birdโ€™s body - typically around the eyes, beak, feet, and legs. ๐Ÿ˜ข Itโ€™s not contagious to humans, but it can spread quickly between birds through mosquito bites or direct contact.

Avian pox facts:
โ—‹ Itโ€™s caused by a virus in the Poxviridae family.
โ—‹ Most birds recover with supportive care, nutrition, and time.
โ—‹ Itโ€™s more common in warm, humid environments where mosquitoes thrive.
โ—‹ While it looks alarming, itโ€™s usually not fatal unless complications arise.

Weโ€™re giving him all the TLC he needs
As always, we appreciate your support in helping us care for these vulnerable creatures. Keep an eye out for updates on his recovery

A big thank you to the person that messaged our page about this little guy, you've been absolutely amazing!
