It is with great sadness we share that we lost another of our Ferals, Oliver. I have posted his story below.

Please reach out if you would like to help us with the cost of his cremation, food for our ferals, or donate to help us TNR more cats, there are so many who need treatment and help stop more from being forced into this life. We pay out of our own pockets for this, and will always be grateful for any help.

Oliver was born as a feral kitten whose mother came to us, back before we were able to prevent it, before we started working with ASAP and McHenry County Animal Control.

He was a sweet cat, but never let us get near, always blinking like we just woke him up. And always wanting (and getting) seconds or treats, hence his name.

We found him today, at first we thought he was sleeping in a tunnel we had for the ferals.

Then we realized that from what we can tell, he was hit by a car by the look of his injuries. He must have struggled to make it back home to us, where he felt safe.

Instead of going into the heated garage full of warmth, food and water, he went to hide. We just wish he hadn't hidden so well, so we could have taken him for treatment.

We took him to Forever Remembered to have him cremated, they have always been kind to us when we have reached out in the past. We paid them $100 for his service.

Unfortunately I was unable to get his microchip to register on our reader so we could let the county know, its possible because he was so cold when we found him, I was unable to get a clear reading.

We are here for them at all stages of their lives, sadly he passed young as too many ferals do. We are heartbroken and angry at the cars that drive so fast down our street. Well over the limit, and this is the 3rd time a careless driver has taken one so needlessly.

Regarding “maybe” pregnancies…..

We’ve had about a dozen people almost not get their cats fixed because they might be pregnant lately. So….this is just a reminder that pregnant cats can and should be spayed. Cats that aren’t even visibly pregnant and are simply a “could be” should absolutely be getting scheduled.

Only one out of a dozen “could be’s” was actually pregnant. But every single “could be” becomes a definitely if you wait. No need to wait and see.

~ Spay Anyway

Many will not agree and that’s okay. No nasty comments.

Last Friday we had a bit of excitement with Sniffles, she is one of our former ferals, turned indoor pampered baby.

While wiping her nose we noticed that she had a large absess on her neck. So off we went to the Emergency Animal Hospital, they were able to treat her.

We are giving her antibiotics, and warm compress several times a day. Today we follow up with her Vet at Northern Illinois Animal and Bird Hospital in Cary.

Unfortunately this was not a cheap ER visit, they never are. It was over $740 plus whatever the visit today will be.

Any costs like this also puts a dent into our food and heating budget for our outdoor ferals.

Please consider donating food or funds to help us thru the winter.

I've added photos of miss Sniffles and her story below.

Her Story:
Sniffles was the first cat we TNR'ed thru Anderson Humane before we started working with the program in McHenry County.

I wanted to bring her in then, but she wanted back out. Then during the summer while I was trapping 8 cats at a time, she decided she didn't want to be outside anymore and calmly walked into an open trap and laid down looking at me.

After some help from our friends at Fierce Animal Rescue, nebulizer treatments, subcutaneous fluids she became healthier and will live the rest of her life inside and spoiled with hot and cold running Churu.

As her name suggests, we need to wipe her nose a lot. We have taken her to the vet a few times.

We have tried many medications, but testing to find out what is giving her the respiratory issues is very costly.

ER vet told us that luckily, her sinus issues are not in her lungs, so if we can keep testing we could treat them once we know what it is.
