🐾 FIREWORKS & KEEPING YOUR PETS SAFE 🐾

Fireworks are scheduled for this Saturday night, 17th October, at 9pm at Barclay Oval for the Eden Whale Festival.

⚠️ Please be aware: If winds pick up, the fireworks may be brought forward to an earlier time without warning. So don’t wait until 9pm to prepare your pets!

Here are a few simple ways to keep your pets safe:
🏡 Keep them indoors! Bring your pets inside well before the fireworks begin, and ensure doors, windows and gates are secure.
🏷️ Check their identification! Make sure your dog is wearing a properly fitted collar or harness with an ID tag displaying their name and your current phone number. Double-check their microchip details are up to date, too!
🎶 Drown out the bangs! Pop on some music, the television or a little background noise to help muffle the sound of fireworks.
🛋️ Create a safe space! Give your pet somewhere familiar and comfortable to retreat to. Let them hide if they need to, and offer plenty of reassurance.
🐕 Walk them early! Get those afternoon walks and toilet breaks out of the way before the festivities begin.

A little preparation can make a world of difference to a frightened pet.

Please share this reminder with your friends, family and neighbours, especially those with pets living close to Barclay Oval.

Stay safe, Eden! ❤️🐾
Cheers,
Micky & Andrew

⚠ Dog owners: please keep your pets away from Sea Hares at Aslings Beach

Thousands of toxic Sea Hares have washed ashore at Aslings Beach in Eden alongside a naturally occurring algal bloom.

❗ Please keep dogs away from the affected area and prevent them from coming into contact with Sea Hares.

❗ The Sea Hares that feed on the algae are highly toxic to dogs if they lick, mouth or eat them. However, the algae has been identified as a mix of native red macroalgae species and is non-toxic.

If your dog has been exposed to a Sea Hare, contact a veterinary clinic immediately.
People should also avoid handling Sea Hares, as their secretions can cause skin irritation.

Council has installed warning signs at the beach and has organised local contractors to remove the Sea Hares tomorrow morning (Wednesday 14 October) at low tide.

Marine macroalgae blooms are a natural occurrence and are common in spring.

Council will continue to monitor the situation and provide further information if needed.
