In honor of Black History Month, we have named London and Brodie’s puppies after inspirational and influential African Americans who played a vital role in shaping history. Through their dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to civil rights and equality, they paved the way for future generations. Learn more about each individual below ⬇️ 🖤
Maya Angelou— renowned poet, author, and civil rights activist. She used her literary works to highlight the struggles and triumphs of African Americans. Her autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, is a seminal work on race, identity, and resilience.
Shirley Chisholm—The first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress in 1968 and the first Black woman to run for President of the United States in 1972.
Madam C.J. Walker—One of the first self-made female millionaires in the U.S., Walker built a haircare empire tailored for Black women, creating economic opportunities and inspiring future generations of Black entrepreneurs.
Frederick Douglass— A formerly enslaved man who became a powerful abolitionist, writer, and orator. His autobiography remains a key historical text.
Colin Powell—The first Black U.S. Secretary of State and a four-star general in the U.S. Army.
