Wagging Dog Rescue Wagging Dog Rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit that saves orphaned critters and completes families.

Wagging Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization striving to help as many dogs as possible get through Southern California's shelters and find the perfect forever family. We are an all volunteer group of passionate animal advocates, owners and rescuers dedicated to improving animal welfare and restoring the unwanted family pet to his rightful place in a responsible home. All of our adopta

ble dogs are in a private foster home with a loving caregiver who guides them through their transition from a stressful past to a permanent and well-deserved future. We promote responsible pet ownership, firm leadership, spay and neuter... and most of all, ADOPTION.

Big thank you to Pet nails by Stormy for helping us keep Duke and Pumpkin healthy. Trimming their nails has been tough! Duke hates having his feet touched. Pumpkin gets pretty grumpy about it, but he didn’t even want to get up after Sabrina was done 😆🥰

Thanks to the amazing Dr Rapp at Pawfection of Helping Hands for yet another super helpful recommendation!

‼️ ‼️ ‼️This is an URGENT MESSAGE ‼️ ‼️ ‼️
--------------Please READ & SHARE widely!!----------------

Attention all Pet Guardians, Veterinary Practices, Animal Shelters & Rescues who have *ever* used "Save This Life" brand microchips!! This company - "Save this Life" - has gone completely dark & their microchips will no longer connect with your info.
Your pet is NOT protected!!

➡️ The URGENT issue is that they have unlinked their database from the national registries. Currently — if your pet were to become lost, there is NO way for any shelter or veterinary hospital to find your information. You MUST register your pet’s microchip with a new company ⬅️

👉 If you adopted your pet, check their adoption folder, you will likely find microchip company info & chip number in this folder. ***NMDOG Adopters, DO NOT WORRY, we have never used this brand of microchip - you dont need to do anything + all of your microchips are connected to NMDOG***

👉 If you do not have access to your pets microchip number or brand, take your pet IMMEDIATELY to a vet clinic or shelter & tell them you would like a chip scan so you can ensure your pet does not have a "Save this Life" microchip - get the brand name & chip number from the scanning agency then contact the chip company to ensure your info is current.
***NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO ENSURE YOUR CHIP INFO IS UP TO DATE, regardless of what brand your pet has***

👉 If you do NOT have a "Save This Life" & your microchip info is registered & up to date, you do NOT need to do anything.

👉 If you DO have a "Save This Life" brand microchip - get your chip number & follow these steps IMMEDIATELY:

Register your Save This Life microchip with petlink.net for just $4.99 with code STL499 for a one-time premium lifetime registration. No renewals, no update fees....ever! Go to petlink.net and click "Register Microchip" to protect your pet for life with PetLink.

⭐️ Petlink is a well established microchip company that we have used here at NMDOG for over a decade. They are NMDOG approved & appreciated - Petlink has a 15yr financial reserve in place (which will cover the life expectancy of most dogs) as a emergency back up, should the worst ever happen.

***Please note: we do not have any additional info. Please contact your veterinarian or the shelter/rescue where you adopted your pet***

It’s Pumpkin Season! Bring home the perfect one 🎃🐶

Meet Pumpkin
Ch-ch-ch-CHIWEENIE TIME!

Pumpkin is a 12-years-young, 18 pound sweetheart who’s a charmer on leash, lovely with new people, and friendly with the felines!

Pumpkin will do just about anything for a snack, and we’d bet that with the right treat, you can teach this senior baby any new trick you want! In fact he will show you just how much he loves to share your food by standing on his hind legs to do his best Dobby the House Elf impression — it’s adorable! He really does love his food, so he'd prefer that no one interrupt his meal times!

Crate-trained and not sensitive to sound, Pumpkin is an easy keeper — he loves a good morning walk, then a soft spot to nap the rest of the day away (with some snack and potty breaks worked in). While he’s not clingy, he does appreciate knowing you’re around and would make a perfect co-worker for your home office.

Pumpkin's perfect home would have one or two adults who aren't gone too often, just a few stairs if any, and regular access to potty areas. If Pumpkin is the cutie-companion you’ve been looking for, talk to us today!

Denver, Colorado area adopters only please!

We said goodbye to Parsnip 😭 We loved that spicy little grandma, everyone did. She was the quietest, sweetest little house mouse, but when she had something to say, she said it, whether it was f* off, or YAAAS dinner time!!! Sometimes she wanted a cuddle, most of the time she wanted her own cozy, fuzzy den, all the time she wanted to sunbathe on the deck and once in a great while she wanted to go on a walk or car ride with the other dogs, asking with a tail wag and those giant soulful eyes.
Parsnip had become a forever foster. As our little mystery patient, she wasn’t suitable for adoption. When we brought her in, she seemed like your average middle-aged Chihuahua lady needing some good care, a little weight loss, some good food and then she’d land on her feet, but Parsnip just had one mystery illness after another. She seemed to have cycles of feeling pretty good and then definitely not so hot. She had come into the shelter Albuquerque Animal Welfare with a puncture wound to her shoulder that seemed to heal nicely. Then a few months later, the front of her shoulder swelled suddenly and burst open with infection. That wound took months to heal. Later, her little toes turned red and puffy, and then the hair fell out in big clumps, and that reaction moved up her arms and across her body overtime, until she had huge patches of missing hair everywhere. Ultimately we suspected an autoimmune disease. Needless to say, she went to the vet a lot, she saw the dermatologist, she had a very healthy diet and lots of supplements. She had the most lovely, kind and knowledgeable acupuncturist Dr. Rapp of Pawfection of Helping Hands and an entire crew VCA Dakota Ridge Animal Hospital that were excited to see her every time she came and tried so hard to help her heal too. Last week she had what appeared to be a large stroke. We rushed her to emergency and she saw a neurologist. She quickly lost use of her back legs and then her front legs, and we knew it was time to let her be free of this body that just didn’t work so well. Rest easy sweetheart 💔

If you’d like to help us with the medical bills for Parsnip and future rescues, please consider becoming a monthly donor (click the PayPal button and check the ‘Make this a monthly donation’ check box). It’s tax-deductible!

Please make arrangements to keep your pets inside the next several days with A/C or fans and lots of water. It's going to be extremely hot here in Southern California.
If that is not possible, walk your fence lines, secure your gates so they don't get out, and provide plenty of shade and LOTS of water. If you or your family can't tolerate the heat sitting outside for hours, neither can your pets with fur coats.
And PLEASE don't walk your dogs when it's 90-105 outside. YOU might want to walk, but your dog doesn't. Plus the sidewalk and pavement are scortching!!
Thank you all for being great pet parents!!

Humans and dogs have been coevolving for tens of thousands of years, working together, feeding and protecting each other. Dogs have had many working jobs for humans, including military service, babysitting and sledding. Their sense of smell alone has the power to save lives, from bomb-sniffing dogs to cancer-sniffing dogs. Thank you isn’t nearly sufficient to all the hard working dogs out there!

Do you feed or are you considering feeding raw food to your dog? Many of our orphans have benefited from raw diets. It’s Rawgust again and a good time to explore the benefits. There are some great resources out there Raw Feeder Life - keepthetailwagging.com Planet Paws The Forever Dog and many private groups as well.

It’s Rawgust! We are reflecting on the healing power of food and one of our Teachers, Grandpa. Back in 2016, we brought this sweet old man home from the shelter so he could be in a loving home for his last weeks or months. He was suspected of having Cushing’s Disease and cancer and we knew he was about a million. But a few vet visits and months later, he was doing much better, thanks mostly to high quality raw food and supplements, which all but cured his leaky gut. He lived with us 2 years in 2 foster homes that believed in the power of food to heal and just fell in love with the cool dude that he was 🥰

Here is a great resource for those considering a raw diet for their fur family. http://www.freshfoodconsultants.org

Little Parsnip at the vet getting her monthly Librela shot. She takes Gabapentin daily as well, to control her pain. We still don’t entirely understand her issues but suspect it could be something autoimmune since it’s stumped our vets so far. She’s been doing pretty well the last couple weeks, minus this odd skin outbreak that causes her hair to fall out in big clumps. She has a special shampoo that seems to calm her skin, but not stop the reaction.

We can really use your help with these monthly expenses that keep her comfortable. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today for her medical care:
