This is a cool idea!

With so much emphasis these days on the lack of horsemanship and skill in the upcoming generation, and more people simply going into competition rather than using the exam and apprenticeship routes, I wanted to see what ideas are out there – and what skill sets are needed to nurture all-round hors...

Love baby horse updates!
Bubbles ( Honors Skyfall H2O bred by Kendra Hansis 🇺🇸)
She is coming 3yo and I’m so excited to get her started and see what she is about later this year!

Her raising farm ( Finest Hour Farm, they are amazing btw) reports that she is all about people, super sweet and trainable, with a touch of spice. My favorite combination! 💕

Did you know, that in addition to dressage training and lessons, Jessica is also a certified Magnawave practitioner?!

Magnawave ( PEMF) has been an amazing addition to Jessica’s training program. Helping support the horses flexibility, soundness and strength. Comfortable happy horses make the best athletes!

Flash back to this handsome guy!

The business’ name sake, Majestik, was one heck of a horse and taught me so much! M helped me learn how to help a big powerful LONG horse make a clean change. How train a talented but tricky horse to the Grand Prix. He and I had so many amazing firsts together and I miss him daily! So proud to keep his legacy alive with as I train and teach.

Winter time activities!

All the tack comes home in rotations to be cleaned, checked, and throughly oiled. Anything that needs repaired or replaced gets sent to the appropriate places.

I always use simple soap with lots of water, letting the tack dry before coating it several times with 100% Neatsfoot oil. I may have to do this more frequently now that we live in dry Colorado!

: Accuracy is free. Big moving horses are expensive, and if you ride a 100% accurate test on a normal mover, and someone else rides a 100% accurate test on a mega mover, you’re probably gonna get beat, and that’s that. But if you ride that same test, and the rider of the mega mover couldn’t find the letter she’s supposed to be riding to for love nor money, there’s your shot at the win. Accuracy is free, and does not require an expensive horse 🐴

No different in a properly adjusted noseband and a “super loses floppy” one!

My pet peeve of gaping lose nosebands is now justified

For the past four years, we have investigated the pressures beneath different nosebands when adjusted from 2.0 to 0.0 finger tightness (0.0 finger adjustment so that the noseband was touching but not compressing the skin).

Poor noseband adjustment could create high pressures that may risk pain or tissue damage. This study is a step forward in providing quantitative data relating to pressures associated with noseband type and fit when adjusted to various tightness’s.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀:

🐴No significant difference between noseband pressures when the noseband was adjusted from 2.0 to 1.5 finger tightness.

🐴Noseband pressures were highest on the mandible vs. the lateral aspect of the nasal bones.

🐴No differences were found in noseband pressures between the cavesson, flash or Swedish (crank) noseband types at 2.0 to 0.5 finger tightness.

🐴The Drop noseband had the lowest absolute nasal pressures (mandible pressures not measured) and significantly lower values than the other nosebands. We need to be mindful of the position of the traditional drop. More work needed.

🐴Noseband pressures were lower when ridden in trot, compared with when chewing a treat.

🐴Noseband pressures were cyclical (rise and fall) and not continuous – changing during the stride and the chewing cycle of the horse.

As always, this is a team effort. Thank you to our research assistants, riders, owners and horses.. Thank you to our funders, World Horse Welfare, British Equestrian, Canadian Sport Horse Association, The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and Hartpury University.

NB image taken from pilot testing and was not included in the main study. All noseband types are described in detail in the manuscript.
