Thanks Jane Hansen for this video and update on what’s going on at the Humane Society of North Central Florida. Love it!! Today we were able to do some nosework enrichment with Buzzy Aldrin ( 1 year old male) and Selena( 5 year old female) in our thrift store which is closed to the public on Mondays. Not only were they able to search for chicken in boxes and on some shelves , but they also were able to enjoy all the “ thrift store” smells! Thanks Nancy O Malley, Diane Reed and Kerry Chancey ! Both of these dogs are available for adoption at the Humane Society of North Central Florida!

WEBINAR DESCRIPTION:
Detection Dog Training is all about communication. We condition a dog to hunt for, and to find, a target odor and then to communicate that find to handler. The mantra that Gail follows is, “Hunt, Find, Commit.”
In training, the handler should learn to read the dog’s changes of behavior (COBs) which communicate to the handler that the dog has reached source. However, if the dog’s communication is too fleeting for reasons we will elaborate on, or if you simply are not able to read your dog’s changes of behavior, then it makes it difficult for you to know if your dog is at source. HAPPY SNIFFING RESEARCH FOUNDATION

K9 Nose Work®/NACSW is proud to announce the collaboration with the newly established “Happy Sniffing Research” foundation.

“Happy Sniffing Research, in partnership with the National Association of Canine Scent Work, is taking up the lead and the leash to implement a study for the purpose of sniffing out the data behind the adoptability rate of dogs that participate in K9 Nose Work within the animal shelter community. The proposed research plan is to supply a select group of shelters with tools and funding to provide K9 Nose Work within their shelter, while at the same time, monitoring a control group that will have all the same enrichment activities provided with the exception of K9 Nose Work. In this manner, each shelter will have a study group and a control group under their roof, so the research study will evaluate each shelter against itself. The study plan is for 5-6 shelters to participate over a period of 6 months and for each shelter to have the oversight and coaching of a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) available for Nose Work sessions.

Each shelter will receive funding and each CNWI will receive compensation for running the K9 Nose Work Program within the shelter. Dogs will be randomly selected for each study and control group, and when one dog is adopted (we hope this happens a lot), then another dog will be randomly selected to replace the adopted dog in both the study group and the control group. At the end of the study period, collected data will be compiled, analyzed and reported as a research publication available for public access.”

I LOVE this video and idea by Jean Haworth at PawsAtlanta (770) 593-1155, of Yoko searching and finding her DNA results! Priceless! You have to watch to the end to see what the results were. Yoko is still available for adoption. What a great dog!

Here is a video of some Humane Society of North Central Florida dogs enjoying nose work enrichment! Pepsi-Cola is completely blind, still recuperating from eye surgery and having a blast!

HSNCF is expanding their Nose Work Program and would like to welcome volunteers Diane and Kerry to the fun. Thanks Jane, Nancy and Rita for the outstanding work. We’re beyond excited that more dogs will be enjoying nose work enrichment.
