Last weekend we opened the season with a fantastic two day working equitation clinic and fix-a-test. Thank you NOVAWE and Kim for welcoming us newbies to the sport!

The clinic was held at Frying Pan Park, which is also home to a bustling park, dog agility course, pet pigs/sheep/cows, and literally hundreds of people with dogs, kids and strollers. Zuko handled himself well, considering he was literally swarmed by small children and dogs on leashes moments after unloading 🥹 As little kids yelled “unicorn!!” and ran up behind him while we walked to the warm up ring, I quickly realized that this might be a very interesting weekend! Bring on the gastroguard…for both of us 😝

This stallion’s incredible bravery and grace under fire showed as we worked through the clinic obstacles on the first day in a very busy indoor arena. Sadly, he was swarmed by a group of people the second day right before coming in the ring for his test, and we survived the experience to tell about it 🥹 - and yet, it was a fantastic learning opportunity!

Now off to some quieter locations for show season, and much knowledge and experience under our girth!

Today our amazing boy, Sunday FCF, left for his new home. He was the first foal born on our farm, and although it was always intended to sell him (he was supposed to be a filly to replace his dam, the elite mare Chee Chee, but the plumbing came out all wrong 😂) - it was bitter sweet to send him off to his new home. He scored an amazing family ❤️, a talented teen rider, and perhaps the best life we could have ever imaged for him.
Breeding is hard - it’s expensive, heart breaking, exhausting and requires incredible patience. But it is all worth it when you find the perfect match for your young horses!

Another before and after - I don’t share enough of these amazing transformations!

I found Daisy at a barn in Delaware, where she had been turned out in big field and absolutely nobody could catch her. I’m not sure what trama this young mare endured, but at just six years old and royally bred, she had ended up being labeled as “crazy”. I paid $700 for her and knew exactly where she was headed if I didn’t step in. And she floated over the ground, catty and athletic, dainty and elegant . She was something special .

Fast forward a few weeks and she was caught and hauled to our farm where the owner shook and tip toed as she unloaded this “crazy” mare. She quietly and happily walked to the barn, where I tucked her in to a stall. Over the next week, we just pet her and gave her treats. She stopped shaking at the sight of a person arriving at her stall, stopped flinching from our touch, and finally accepted those delicious treats we offered. She was turned out in a small paddock without an issue. Training began, and her pedigree showed - she was an incredible athlete with three floating gaits.

Her body quickly transformed from thin and wary to muscled and shiny. She became confident, eager to learn, willing to accept her person, and happy under saddle. And the best part - she was easy to catch and would meet me at the gate!

Her transformation didn’t take long, but it sure was dramatic in both mind and body. She was sold to an amazing professional rider who loved her pedigree, her natural talent, her sensitive nature and her endless potential. At just six years old, she had nothing but a bright future ahead with a quiet, sympathetic rider.

The best part about these transformations is finding the perfect fit for the horse, where they can grow and thrive - and usually, it is the opportunity of a lifetime for a rider.

Ever wondered what we do on those frigid winter days? Here’s just a few fun shots of some training and desensitization work we do with training horses and the babies when stuck inside for weeks on end.

It’s Valentine’s Day…and that means we are making plans for those frozen semen straws!

Our Andalusian broodmare Callie (Firme II) produced 4 amazing foals for her previous owner - one oldest filly is a broodmare for Epic Andalusians in Texas, and a coming 4 year old is a double dillute dressage stallion starting to compete this year in Wellington.

Callie will be bred to Zuko this spring for a 2026 foal. This combination should produce an incredibly athletic future star for upper level dressage or working equitation.

This combination might be a keeper - come on girl, make a filly!

Zuko is home from a week at New Bolton, where he hit the breeding shed for the first time.

Monday was two test collections, and and he had fantastic semen count and morphology, making him an excellent candidate to freeze. Wednesday and Friday he was collected and produced 170 straws - that’s 21 breedings of excellent quality frozen semen stored and ready to go!

A huge thank you goes out to the incredible vets, stallion handlers, and staff at New Bolton that made it a positive learning experience for Zuko and kept communication each step of the way.

Now it’s time to get back training and preparing for the upcoming show season, and get some 2026 Zuko babies on the way!

The past two weeks have been so cold and snowy, but the horses haven’t seemed to even notice. Silly babies played endlessly in the fresh powder, the old ladies ate their way through the storms, and everyone was bundled up as needed. Thank goodness for the indoor to keep the horses ridden in this winter weather!
