People are often interested in finding a friend for their dog. We ask that they bring the, or dogs,to ensure the pairing is a good one. We brought out a dog, and then tried another older puppy, but the handsome, mature male only had eyes for Stella. They were immediate friends and Stella quickly charmed her new people too. Congratulations to Stella, and her new family.

Goblin, Sandbar, and Dusky are the remaining pups of Glory's litter. We sent three of their siblings to the North and have heard they got rave reviews for being such good, sweet pups. Yet their siblings sit here with no interest.
There are so many unwanted animals in our state that great dogs sit in shelters because there is no place for them to go. Dogs roam the streets or die in kill shelters because rescue groups and shelters are full. Friends from other rescue say the same thing, overloaded and overwhelmed. We all feel hopeless and depressed, adoptions are way down and we are getting multiple requests a day to take animals. It is time to be responsible and time to take action.
We cannot adopt, or transport, enough animals to fix this. Stop shopping for designer, or fad dogs, or the perfect dog, get a dog that needs a home. Have your pets spayed and neutered. There are pregnant dogs and litters of puppies being tossed out in huge numbers. Only when as a society we acknowledge this as a critical issue will things change. Some shelters have already closed and more will be forced to do the same thing.

Orphaned Hound Update. KODIAK
It's been just over two years since we rescued the orphaned hounds. When we got to the property Kodiak was in a pen by himself and so thin we had little hope he would survive the bitter cold. Miraculously a thick bed of warm straw and much needed food kept him going until we could wrangle him.
Kodiak has been a tough "nut to crack". While he is still a bit unsure of things he has come a long way from being a dog who would cautiously and quickly grab a cookie, tuck his tail, and run back into his dogloo. Kodiak continues to gain confidence, has made dog friends, and is becoming accepting of humans. While it is a slow process we are pleased with his progress. And look at his smile!

Alaska was one of the Orphaned Hounds we removed from the abandoned property with her young pup, Juneau.
She has been living in a foster home for a while but this week her adoption was signed, sealed, and delivered - It's official, she's not an orphan anymore! And she looks pretty happy about it.

Congratulations Alaska.

We would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone to spay and neuter all of your pets.

Our Orphaned Hounds are a perfect example of how quickly things can get terribly out of control when pets are not spayed/neutered.

The fact is there are more homeless dogs than available homes, we can't rescue and adopt our way out of overpopulation; we MUST be part of the solution to prevent unwanted litters.

We first met Kodiak about a year ago, he was scared and hungry and it took us a while to catch him.

Today, he is well-fed and living at the Dolly Goodpuppy kennel and working on overcoming his fears and becoming more socialized and outgoing.
