Thank you to everyone who shared Nino! In the strangest turn of events, Nino found a home - by going for a walk.

We met a man while walking down a busy street, who shared he had a shar pei. His wife was on the phone and he sent her a photo. I shared he was up for adoption (as I’d done with the previous 10 people who pet him), and they were interested!

Today, they drove and hour with their two dogs to the shelter so all could meet. The meet went very well, and Nino found his forever family. They have a pei and have had others before her, so there’s no doubt Nino will get great care.

Thank you to everyone who shared. Dim is smiling somewhere that another broken dog found a forever home ❤️

It’s been a while…and I never know what to do with this page but it seems right to use it this way. Dim brought so many people together, and it’s my hope that can help find a special dog a home. So pei pals, please help Lilo find a home ❤️

He is a 7 year old pei surrendered to be euthanized at ACCT Philly where I now work. The request was due to concerns about shar pei fever and bloody explosive diarrhea and vomiting. The owners declined additional assistance, but after examining him our veterinarian determined medically he could have a good quality of life and euthanasia didn’t have to be the answer.

🐾7 years old and lived his whole life in a home

🐾basic bloodwork was Pei-fect

🐾negative for parvo though checked twice given symptoms

🐾He is anxious, looking for his owners but unfortunately they declined medical assistance so he desperately needs a new home.

🐾walks well on a leash and was easy for staff to check in

🐾eyes are in good shape and is already neutered but suffers from skin issues and mucinosis

➡️Located in Philadelphia please reach by messaging if you are interested or if you are with a pei saavy rescue that can take him ASAP!

It’s been a while… but asking for help for my new foster, sweet Cookie🍪, from ACCT Philly. Given up by her owners after 5 years, she was described as playful but in the shelter was so scared and tried to avoid being pet 😞

We knew she needed entropian surgery, but the consult revealed she needs more than that. Not only did she spend the first five years of her life with her eyelashes turned inward, irritating her eyes and scarring them, but she also has distachia, which means she has an extra row of eyelashes - also inward facing and irritating her eyes. These will need to be frozen off.

I asked the opthomologust what her vision is like, and the answer is “she sees like you would through a muddy windshield,” ver batim what I was told about Dim.

Please help us help her live free from pain. She is on medication to minimize pain and discomfort, but needs expensive surgery. It’s scheduled for several weeks from now (the soonest available time), and costs $4,100😳

I’m hoping to raise what I can for the ACCT Philly Yoda Fund so that she can get this surgery and live her best life.

Please consider making a donation via this post, and share to help her hopefully find a home once she is ready 🥰

It always feels strange to post on here since Dim is no longer here, but Dim would no doubt want his legacy to be helping other dogs (actually he'd probably want it to be that shar peis everywhere are provided ice cream 🍦daily, but I digress).

So meet Heart❤️. Heart has been in foster with me since April, and similar to Dim, hasn't had the easiest life. He was found with his tongue cut out and punctures on his neck😔. The good samaritans who found him brought him to ACCT Philly. Unfortunately there was no way to give him a new tongue, but Heart has fully recovered and is yearning for a new home (no, I cannot keep him).

🐾He can drink on his own and also eat kibble just like any dog, he's just a little messier when he eats and drinks.

🐾He's housetrained, good in the car, loves every person he meets and has been good with other dogs who are friendly (he will shriek at those who are not, no doubt telling them how rude they are).

🐾He is estimated to be around 2 years old, though acts like a puppy in many ways. He loves to chase after toys, get belly rubs, and hang out next to you on the couch.

🐾Heart's ideal home would be either with one other dog who is social and can show him how to be a dog🐶, or by himself, and one where his people will not just love him but also continue to train him so he grows more confident.

🐾Heart doesn't know his name, but has learned sit, no, and leave it. He is very smart and wants to please, and is hoping he can find his forever family soon. 🤞He does have a prey drive so cannot be in a home with cats, birds, or small critters as that would be stressful for both him and the critters. He can be easily redirected on walks but has made it clear he sees them as food not friends. 🤦‍♀️

If you're interested in adopting Heart, please fill out an application at bit.ly/AdoptHeart, he is located in Philadelphia.

P.S. I'd really appreciate if you share this post, even if you don't know anyone looking for a pup. Heart just needs that one person or family that is out there, so anything to help spread the word is truly appreciated. As are any recommendations of dog toys that are truly indestructible.

Now that Dim has passed, I don’t post much on here - but Dim loved the “holly-days!” 😂

One of his favorite things was rummaging through the gifts he got whether they were in bags, boxes or stockings (and whether they were for him or me). Thank you to everyone who sent him gifts over the years ❤️

Looking back I realize I had many more Christmas’s with him than many thought possible - and for that I’m so grateful to Lake Forest Animal Hospital, Gaithersburg and Trupanion.

I wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday - if you’re celebrating with your pet I’d love to see a pic below! Here are some of Dim’s holiday pics over the years!

A reminder of how resilient dogs are. This little dog was hit by a car yesterday and both eyes had to be removed as a result.

When she arrived at ACCT Philly, the animal shelter in Philadelphia where I now work, she should have been in excruciating pain but instead was licking her foot and otherwise appeared stable. She was hospitalized overnight and somehow managed to not have any other injuries.

This morning she had surgery to remover her eyes. Tonight she’s resting on the couch appears more irritated by the cone than anything else, as was the case with Dim when he had his eyes removed.

Dogs are resilient, and while I’ve already seen quite a few people flinch on the street when they realize her eyes are gone, little Nikki will heal and find a home where she will live life seeing with her heart and hopefully teach others to do the same.

Please consider opening your heart and home to a blind dog, or other specially abled pet. They need advocates ❤️

Saving Nikki required several thousand dollars, so if you are in a position to do so, please consider making a donation to the Yoda Fund which makes it possible for the shelter to help dogs like Nikki: https://bit.ly/2UyHhPl

Happy International Blind Dog Day! The bond you will have with a blind dog will be like no other ❤️

Today is International Blind Dog Day according to RSPCA (England & Wales)! As a noble eyeless wonder pei, here are six benefits of adopting an eyeless wonder dog 🐶:
1) don't worry about getting shampoo in our eyes! Eyeless wonder dogs are immune to that!
2) if you have shrunken yoomans always playing and talking to their rectangle 📱, make them walk us. If they don't pay attention we will trip them to get the to focus.
3) don't like giving eye drops? We will never need them!
4) our other senses quickly become sooper strong, so you can still teach us things
5) our hearing tends to be amazing when we want it to be. If there is an intruder we will know! *we may still be selective when to activate this sooper power
6) we may not see with our eyes but that just makes us see better with our hearts and we will ❤️ you for giving us a chance.

In moving to a new city and seeing so many dogs and cats come into the shelter, I’ve realized several things:

if you are lucky enough to have a pet, give them all the ❤️ you have so that you can learn all they have to teach you in whatever time they have with you. You won’t realize until later just how much they taught you.

Second, Never take your dog for granted. Their snorts, their quirks, their barks, the stealing of food - the things they do that drive you crazy. Those times when they wake you up for no reason. Don’t forget those moments and cherish them because one day you’ll miss those moments like crazy.

And third, “If you want to change the world, start off the day with making the bed.” That quote may be from a war admiral, but Dim took it to ❤️ (and in typical Dim fashion, did it backwards by making his bed at night). And there may be some truth to it.
