Jezzabelle's Mystery Illness Journey As many of you know, Jezzablle has been fighting a mysterious infection. She is now in the ICU at Neel Veterinary Hospital. She deserves more.

Please see more under About and her Story. Rescuing seniors is rewarding, yet heartbreaking. As many of you know, Jezzablle has been fighting a mysterious infection since her dental surgery, but it is not related to the surgery itself which went very well with 6 teeth extracted. Her mouth is totally healed now with no signs of any infection or abscesses. I took her to Neel vet last night and she i

s now in ICU. The general consensus is a bacterial infection that broke through her gums and has gone systemic, but we haven’t found the source yet. Nothing is explaining the ongoing excruciating pain and absolute lack of improvement even with the antibiotics and heavy pain meds I have been giving her. She stopped using her left rear leg a few days ago (we think nerve related) and you can barely touch her hind area without her crying out. She can't sit due to her tail pain and when stands she holds her leg in the air. She's only comfortable (moderately so) when laying down. Her fever temperature of 106 has reduced to a normal 101, thank God. Her bloodwork still shows infection with a white blood cell count of 34,000 (down from 36,000), but there are no other elevations to point us in a specific direction. She is now on a morphine/lidocaine drip to help control pain, but even that isn't covering it all and this morning she refused food. She never, ever refuses food...

I AM USING THIS PAGE AS A PLATFORM FOR FINANCIAL HELP. I used GoFundMe for her dental surgery and the fees are outrageous so I chose to do it this way. I've put an additional $400 into trying to figure this out with the Animal Wellness Center of OKC and still owe them $200. I simply do not have the funds to help her and don't want to put her to sleep based on that. She's only 11 and the puppy of the Beagle Bungalow Retirement Home. I just lost Brad - I'm not prepared to lose another so soon. I have included the quote for treatment as photos on the page. It will continue to rise as long as she stays in ICU. If you can help in any way, Jezz and I would be eternally grateful. I'm begging.

UPDATE - our vet is out with a family emergency and we’ve rescheduled for the 25th.
————-
Jezzabelle is going in tomorrow for another dental and several rotten teeth extractions.

I’m scared, but I can’t just ignore it. She’s been on amoxicillin for almost 3 months.

The meningitis infection from the last dental/extraction took such a massive toll on her and I don’t believe she could survive it again.

Please say prayers for her (and me and Moo) that all goes well. Moo needs her - totally dependent.
I’ve put it in God’s hands.

Jezzabelle’s blood work is NORMAL!!!

We have another dental coming up to take out several canine teeth, but we’re starting in a good place.
We’ll start heavy antibiotics first.

Today’s vet visit update:

((sigh, here we go again))
I’ll start with the positive: Doc M was amazed at her progress. He just stared at her and smiled as she bounced around. I told him her new puppy sister, Moo, was therapy you can’t buy.

Meds: CBC results on Monday. He said it’s fine that I’ve cut the pain and pred doses in half as she doesn’t seem bothered. I’m now cutting her pain down to a half once a day and will watch her. She will continue the immune suppressant for a while, but depending on blood work, may be able to do it every other day.

Now for the bad: She really needs a dental (shudder). Several of her back molars are just black/brown rotten and need to come out. First it’s expensive and second, the obvious...

Jezz dental 3/25/2017 = meningitis nightmare began a week later
Snoopy dental 7/3/2017 = what ultimately killed him a week later

But what do you do? You can’t leave it like that. I didn’t have a choice with either of them the first time and now it’s deja vu all over again.

Beagle Bungalow check-in:

Miss Jezzie is doing so good!🎉🤗
I've cut both her pain pill and steroid in half and so far so good... keep your fingers crossed. I have not stopped the antibiotic. We're just shy of 6 months into the mystery journey.

Moo, the queen of goosing, continues to keep her on her toes. Jezz psychs her out and Moo falls for it every time. I adore watching them play as they are both miracles to me.

God is good.

Miss Jezza Bezza Belle continues to awe me. She is proof that God exists (like I didn't already know that...).

We are continuing to fight the effects of the meningitis: left rear leg weakness and nerve pain. She has taken to wandering the back yard like an old lady snuffling the grass (like her late sister did).

Enter the Moo:

Her new little twerpy, derpy 9 month old puppy sister, Mollie (The Moo) is having a tremendous positive impact as emotional support for me and challenging Jezz in good ways.

When she gets tired of playing with her squeakies (puppy attention span is so short, lol), she heads straight for Jezz. She zooms around her at warp speed barking like a fool until Jezz suddenly stops and barks back at her. That fires Moo back up and the zoomies continue where they left off.

Yesterday I caught her chasing The Moo back. It was brief, but it happened! I just beamed!! I believe she's strengthening that leg as last night she jumped up on the couch like it was nothing.

Jezzabelle has a history of intolerance, so I wasn't really sure how this would go. Glad it's good as Moo can't go anywhere without her, follows her everywhere, flops on her and ridiculously loves her.
