If you've had a build up of a headache in the last few days or had a headache, or your pets been acting different in the last couple of days, this could be why.

Some are more sensitive to the barometric pressure. When the pressure changes we can experience headaches, fatigue, mood/hormone changes, and other joint pains.

So if your pets are behaving differently, they are probably having a hard time dealing with the pressure changes and once the storm passes, they'll be back to their normal selves again.

I am absolutely speechless ! 13,690 strikes per hour ? Bloody hell !
Fast approaching 100,000 lightning strike in less than 24 hrs .
It’s insane !

Ticks

What wonderful little creatures they are , latching on to you or your pets, taking blood, and what do they thank us with? Flippin Lyme disease...thanks ticks.

And as we sooo love these pesky little ticks, I'd like to share with you all, a few preventative measures and ways to remove ticks from your pets.

🧑‍⚕️Consult with your vet

Your vet will have preventative products available and will know which one is working best. Some ticks are resistant to some products.

🌿 Natural resistance,

A few segments of Garlic added to their food can be a good natural preventative against ticks.

Products like billy no mates is also a good natural preventative

🪮 Brushing/grooming your pets

Regular brushing can help remove any ticks that maybe starting to latch on. And it's a good way to feel for any lumps and bumps along their skin.

🍂 Keep the grass short and bushes trimmed

This creates a less favourable environment for them in your garden and get rid of any debris or leaf pile where ticks may hide.

If you do find a tick on your pet, the best way to remove them is with a tick remover. Keeping your pet still...use the remover to hook the tick and twist them out.
If you don't have a tick remover you can use tweezers, and a dab a bit of TCP on the tick before pulling the tick out, but this does increase the risk of getting Lyme disease and not getting the head out. So I highly recommend in getting a tick remover if you haven't got one already.

These are just my two cents in tick prevention,
what is your best go to prevention methods?

Dog of the month (may) (sorry bit late). Has got to be Bertie, he and his owners have had such a journey to get to where they are today. Each visit they get better and better. Well done team bertie, you truly have worked tremendously hard and that hard work is really shining through. 😁😁

What is a Titre Test?

A titre test is a blood test which measures the antibody levels to various disease in your dogs' blood. If they have adequate antibody levels present, then this is proof of immunity and shows that they do not need a booster vaccination. In fact, they are better proof of immunity than vaccinating, as some dogs do not respond to vaccinations. If you have a non-responder (more common in black & tan breeds) then you could give a vaccine every year and they may never produce antibodies or mount an adequate immune response, and so not be protected at all.

What Diseases are Tested?

The titre tests we use measure antibody levels to Parvovirus, Distemper and Hepatits - the 3 core diseases dogs are vaccinated against.

What will Happen on the Day?

All that will happen on the clinic day is we will take a blood sample from your dog, and make note of their previous vaccine history (so please bring this with you). That's it!

When Should I do a Titre Test?

Titre tests can be done at any time. However, the best time to do one is shortly before your dog is due their booster vaccination, so you know whether they need it or not. They are especially important in young dogs, as if a puppy finishes their vaccine course before 16 weeks then the vaccines may not have been effective, due to maternal antibodies still being present, which can block the action of the vaccine. A titre test can be performed any time from 1 month after a vaccine.

How Often Shoud I do a Titre Test?

Titre tests should be performed as often as needed. If you have a strong positive result then it is best to repeat the test every 3 years. If they have any borderline or low results, then it may be worthwhile repeating the test the following year, especially if it is the Parvovirus result that is low, as this is the most prevelant of these diseases. Your results will be sent out to you shortly after the clinic day, with recommendations for when it will next be due.

Why Should I Titre Test?

Titre tests allow you to avoid over-vaccination of your pet. At each vaccination, there is always a risk of a vaccine reaction, either immediately, or delayed. There are also various immune mediated diseases that have been linked with vaccination, with evidence suggesting the vaccine can act as a trigger for the disease process. These include immune mediated haemolytic anaemia, immune mediated thrombocytopaenia & immune mediated skin diseases.
