Posting knowledge:
I’ve been hearing alot of claims from other sellers and purchasers recently about posting and scams. As we edge closer to the time of year when unfortunately, there are more scammers about, I thought I would share some tips on how to better protect yourself and what you should expect from a reputable seller.
As a keeper/educator and breeder, you always want the best for your animals.
You want them to grow well. You want them to eat well. You want them to travel well.
🕷️1. Forms of payment. This can be through any protected payment services/bank transfers ideally from a credit card as there is extra protection for loss of monies.
🕷️2. Disclaimers. Every seller should reserve the right to cancel or postpone transportation if the needs are not correct. This could be. The weather, postal complications at the time, or the spider is in premolt/molt. But a date in the future should always be available and a follow up from the seller should be made to the purchaser. A refund can also be made back to the seller if requested and taken again closure to the new delivery date.
🕷️3. Reservations rights. Every purchaser should be able to reserve a spider for a period of time. Some sellers don’t offer this option or will charge you. Which means they only just want one thing. Your money. Good sellers will happily reserve at no extra charge to the seller.
🕷️4. Follow up advice. The seller should be responsible for offering advice to the purchaser. The purchaser chooses to refuse or follow the advice.
🕷️5. Correct packaging. The spider should be contained in a padded sealed small area that is the size of the spider. Ideally the spider should not be able to move about so freely but should be able to at least turn around. This is to protect the spider from hurting itself there should be a small ventilation hole. The container should be placed in a larger outer box padded with packing materials. Such as, shredded paper, foam tubes,
Bubble wrap etc. The outer box should be severely fastened around the edges and along the cardboard opening flaps on top and bottom. Extra ventilation holes is optional but not necessary. A heat pad should be provided every time when the temperature is not fit for the spider over 24 hours.
🕷️6. Purchasers should always ask for pictures and assess the quality of the photos. Ask for a video evidence of the spider. Contact details of the seller, such as a telephone number, can also be obtained and there should be no reservation from the seller in giving out these details to the purchaser.
🕷️7. Always prompt for next day delivery. And do not accept anything else. This protects everyone involved.
🕷️8. Make sure you stay in for your parcel! And yes I’m sorry, but it will be all day. Some Royal Mail parcels get delayed. And it’s completely out of control. On extremely rare occasions you may get your parcel as late as 5pm.
If the purchaser misses to collect a parcel, then the parcel will return to the nearest central depot/sorting office where guarantee of arrival/safe handling is seriously unknown..
🕷️9. Postage payment.
Next day delivery by Royal Mail as of 2024 is always £10 for spiders. Any decrease as large as £2 on the receipt and you should in theory receive a refund. However, a lot of time, care and consideration is put in to this process. So if you don’t mind the extra 1.38p difference then we as sellers would greatly appreciate that. Anything heavy such as a vivarium, we cost it extra in a separate parcel.
🕷️10. Lost parcels.
Once a parcel leaves a seller it’s now partly the purchasers responsibility and the postal services responsibility to recover that parcel. Should a parcel become lost, sellers should always help to resolve the issue but cannot accept liability or responsibility for the issue if the correct steps have been taken.
I hope this helps.
