PONY PATHWAYS DIARY DATES 2019

Saturday lessons continue as normal!

**Friday 1st March – Stable Management Evening Course Begins.
Session 1 of a 6 week course. A dismounted pony care course. Group 1, an introduction to horse/pony care. Working towards Pony Pathways Levels 1-3, Pony Club E-D+ Tests @ 5.00 pm. Group 2, a more advanced group in horse and pony care. Working towards Pony Pathways Levels 4-6, Pony Club C-C+ Tests @6.15 pm. Please wear suitable clothing for handling ponies/horses and the weather. £7.00 per session or £30.00 for all 6.

**Thursday 7th March – BHS Devon Road and Rider Awareness Evening. An informative evening on how to share the roads safely with Devon Police and BHS Safety Officer. Plus the opportunity to join Devon and Cornwall Horse watch scheme. At The Bedford Hotel Tavistock. 19.30 – 21.30. Free entry, refreshments available.

**Friday 8tht March – Stable Management Evening.
Session 2 of a 6 week course.

**Friday 15th March – Stable Management Evening.
Session 3 of a 6 week course

**Thursday 21st March – BHS Devon Quiz Night.
The British Horse Society Devon are hosting a quiz night and social evening at The Dolphin Hotel at Bovey Tracey at 7.00 pm. Everyone welcome – teams of 4 or come along and join another team. Cost £15 per team in advance or £20 per team on the night. Contact me for details.

**Friday 22nd March – Stable Management Evening.
Session 4 of a 6 week course.

**Friday 29th March – Stable Management Evening.
Session 5 of a 6 week course.

**Friday 5th April – Stable Management Evening.
Session 6 of a 6 week course. Final session.

**Thursday 11th April – Junior Horse Handler Day.
A day of handling ponies, catching, working them in hand in the school to build up confidence. 11 am – 3 pm. Please bring your pony and a packed lunch! £15 per person. Please book by 6th April.

**Sunday 14th April - BHS Devon Langaller Stud Visit by kind invitation of Charles Upham. An opportunity to visit a well-known local stud. A chance to see horse breeding at its best, Charles is going to show us his stallions, mares and foals and his vet will be there to help answer any questions you may have. Please book with me.

**Monday 15th April – Picnic Ride Social.
Meet up at 11 am, hopefully back about 3 pm. Please bring a saddle bag or similar with packed lunch, waterproofs, head collar, lead rope and string.
We will need to know numbers, so please let me know by 10th April.

**Wednesday 17th April - JUMPING DAY and CLEAR ROUND JUMPING.
We will go through jumping skills & also how to ride a show jumping course.
11 am – 3 pm. Please bring your pony and a packed lunch! £15 per person. Please book by 12th April.

**Thursday 2nd May Badminton Horse Trials Trip and Course Walk with Richard Walker who won Badminton 50 years ago this year, at the age of 18. Richard is a renowned international event and show jumping trainer, past Olympian and European Individual Silver Medallist, team Gold Medallist are a few of his equestrian achievements. Advanced booking is essential as we need to organise transport and tickets.

A day of lessons, horse care and fun. 11am – 4 pm. Please bring a packed lunch and your pony! £15 per person.
Please book by 24th May.

We are so fortunate to have Anne-Marie back a third time for another two amazing days with this world class trainer. . Open to everyone who would like to train with Anne-Marie. Social BBQ on Wednesday evening at Two Bridges at 7.00 pm. Please ask me for details.

**Monday 29th July – Wednesday 31st July – Pony Pathways Summer Camp!
Three days of exceptional educational pony fun!!
Camp set up Sunday 28th. Orientation Sunday 28th at 4.00pm! Early booking essential as cost is dependent on numbers. (Fees should be similar to last year.)

**Tuesday 21st August – Pony Day.
A day of lessons, horse care and fun. 11am – 4 pm. Please bring a packed lunch and your pony! £15 per person.

Pony Pathways
Over Night Ride (riding to Two Bridges) Thursday 30th and Friday 31st August 2018.
(Please confirm that you are coming as soon as possible, 1.00 pm Tuesday latest).
Riding over to Two Bridges on Thursday 30th, camping overnight and returning back to Chagford on Friday 31st August. The horses will need to be electric fenced off in separate pens.
We will be making camp on Wednesday afternoon, meeting at Two Bridges at 2.30 pm. to erect the tents and make up the pens…. Any belongings (wash kit, change of clothes, sleeping bag, etc.) that you wish to have at the hotel on Thursday evening maybe left at the hotel then!

You will need to bring an evening feed and a morning feed for your pony/horse and a water container for them to drink out of. I suggest that you just bring a grooming brush, hoof pick and some fly repellent.

Thursday Morning – meet at Waye Barton at 10.30 am.
On the ride you should take a saddle bag with a waterproof lining, either a dry bag or rubble sack.
Please take: any medication and let an adult be aware that you have it with you. Unaccompanied under 18’s please complete a medical form (as we have them, it will be the easiest way of having all your contact details).
Water, sun screen, packed lunch for first day, light weight waterproofs.
Head collar, lead rope and piece of twine.
Pocket money for ice cream.

Thursday evening – after we have settled our ponies/horses we will be having a ‘bring and share’ BBQ, (family welcome to join us).

Friday morning – We will be having a Full English Breakfast (8.00 am) at the hotel (this is our way of thanking them for putting us and our ponies/horses up for the night, the cost for breakfast is £12.00 per person. If you have any friends or family wishing to join us for breakfast please let me know so that l can let the hotel kitchen know.)
After breakfast we will pack up, get our ponies/horses in and then start back to Chagford. (Our camping area needs to be left clean and tidy as there is a wedding there at lunchtime.)
We will be stopping at Postbridge P.O. for a pasty or similar for lunch on the way home, so please bring some money for lunch.

Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th July – Anne-Marie Taylor F.B.H.S. Clinic. (Part of the BHS Devon Masterclass Series.) We are so fortunate to have Anne-Marie back for another two amazing days with this world class trainer. . Open to everyone who would like to train with Anne-Marie. Social Supper and talk with guest speakers Hamish Mitchell 'Horse and Hound', 'Country Life' and 'The Field' photographer and Anne-Marie Taylor on Wednesday 18th at 7.15 pm at Two Bridges. Please ask me for details.

Sunday 29th July – Wednesday 1st August – Pony Pathways Summer Camp!
Three days of educational pony fun!!
Instructors all booked!!
Camp set up Sunday 29th July. Orientation Sunday 4.00pm
*N.B. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the cost of the camp will just cover expenses and will be £120 per rider.
A £50 deposit by Monday 9th July is required to secure a place and a suggested camp kit list will be available once you have booked.
You are most welcome to camp out in the field or come in daily.

5.30 pm at Waye Barton. All welcome! Come along and enjoy an old classic horsey film and a slice of pizza.

Cost £20 per person in advance. You will need suitable clothing, a pen paper and a packed lunch!

Pony Pathways 2017 Dartmoor Overnight Ride.
After a day in the saddle, ponies/horses were all tucked up in their temporary pens on the moor and the campers settled down to a hearty BBQ, before nestling into their tents for a good night's sleep down by the river. In the morning we enjoyed our Two Bridges full English Breakfast to ready us for day two!
