Makena
5/25/2013 - 6/27/2025
They are never with us long enough. There aren’t enough words to describe all that she was, all that she meant, but here goes:
Princess, monkey dog, nibbser, mamma girl, makanena, queen of the universe, waggy. Whatever nickname we called, she answered with an enthusiastic trot and a smile. Always wagging her beautiful tail no matter what.
From the day I stopped in my tracks seeing that little 7-week old fluff ball, to her last breath, she melted my heart and she loved with all of hers.
She was named for a special place in Maui and also as an honor/nod to another very special Makena, a friends dog who was also named for the same special place.
She loved “her boys” - Cash, Wyatt and her bestie boi Ambrose; she played mamma to Scarlett and even liked Lani. She ruled her yard like a boss; she welcomed the new puppies in as they each joined the pack and showed them the ropes - Scarlett, Harlow and Brodie.
She was stoic, strong, silly, sweet and loved to nibble “numm” on, well…everything! If she nummed on you, that meant you were accepted. When it was time to eat she’d run around with a toy in mouth and bark in excitement. She loved to ride in the car, with the windows down, wind in her hair and leaning against the seat taking it all in. She loved to swim, to play fetch, to “numm” and tear the pet beds into pieces.
She had a glint in her eye, a pep in her step and a ready wag or smile for everyone. She was intelligent, naturally obedient, and always nearby.
Makena-nena, baby girl, princess…you are already extremely missed, it’s way too quiet without you. Run free and say hi to the boys and Lani. Love you monkey. 🐾💔🌈
