But boy does she make me laugh.

Good tip: if you’re having trouble with ants in the pants of the pup, put a leash on so you can help them choose to get back on the boundary themselves easier. Works really well— until they sploot. 🤪

What you practice, you become.

Ana my Husky & Freyja the Corgi are notorious rabble rousers! 🥳 When they see each other, they tend to want to go crazy into play. I do not want crazy play in the house. What I want is calmness. I’m not telling these dogs what to do or telling them to calm down. We’ve been teaching them how to be calm around each other. That is a skill that they can learn and practice. What they practice, they become. ❤️ 🐕 🐾 🐾

Eros loves to howl! It’s like singing in the car when no one else is listening. Sometimes I will join him in a group howl even tho he knows I’m not a dog 😂 For me, when we howl together, there is a freedom in it. It’s like funneling all my thoughts I couldn’t express, into one huge, long, relieving howl. It’s one of those special moments with him alone that I enjoy so much.

Clients young rescue--excited greeter

Does this look like your dog? 🥳Every time someone walks in the house, it's PARTY TIME!! Little Miss Reyna Party Pants is thinking that exact thing when she sees me coming in. 🤩 I think she could have a strong future in agility, but that's another time 😆

This isn't "bad" behavior. This is DOG behavior. This is how she expresses herself. And since she is a rescue dog that struggles with confidence, the LAST thing I want to do is stop her from expressing herself. I would rather see this than a dog that runs away and hides, which is one of her struggles. She gets excited very fast and will jump, spin, even potty. All those behaviors are just information giving me insight into her feelings & learned patterns.

What I want her to do is learn to reel it in a bit and calm down, especially in a multi dog household. It is hard to do for pups but it isn't impossible. She actually calmed down quite a bit with me and I never "told" her to. Never scolded her. Just allowed her to make her choices, and gave her a little time to sort out which one was going to work best for her. And like magic, she did!

By teaching her how to calm down, and choose a different behavior when guests come in, she doesn't have to feel punished for expressing herself. 🥰 Reyna and her mom are having fun while a whole lot of learning is going on. ROCKSTARS! They are on a winning track!

Boundary training with the dogs 🐕 🐶 🐾 🐾

Why teach boundaries?

Boundaries teach dog to:
✅ Chill
✅ Treat things falling on the floor as no big deal
✅ Keeps them out of your way in the kitchen
✅ Keeps them from jumping on guests
✅ relax around each other
✅ that no matter what’s going on, they need to keep it parked until released
✅ Removes the need to teach a “stay”
✅ Gives them a focal point - something tangible (a place to go)
✅ Can be transferred wherever you go
✅ Promotes calm in a multi dog household which eliminates crazy dogs in the house & fighting

Boundaries are transferable, mobile & a way of life! ✌️

Sometimes less is more.

I see many FB posts in different dog groups asking for help.
Time and time again non professionals give out advice like "tire them out",
"give them more exercise", I also see "give them at least 2 X 1 hour walks per day. Physically tire them out".

If you have a dog that is nervous or overstimulated on walks, or a dog that is constantly on the go then more walks or exercise is the total opposite of what they need.

Some dogs don't have the skills to handle busy walks, they find them stressful. Walks fill their emotional bucket.
That bucket doesn't get a chance to empty properly before it's topped right back up again with the next walk. This can leave a dog pacing the house, jumping up, barking or even biting, due to their inability to switch off and calm.
Just like us when we have had a stressful day. Sometimes it doesn't take much for us to blow a fuse at something seemingly trivial.

Dogs need rest, they need to feel safe and learn the skills to feel comfortable in the world around them.
Luckily there are games to help.

Games that will help calm your dog, to empty its emotional bucket.
Games that will help build your dog's confidence and help them thrive when they are out and about.
Games to keep them active and thinking without getting them stressed.

Sometimes less is more beneficial.
