Oh, Rielly, you were our first HPK pup. You knew you were Roger’s dog, becoming his shadow no matter where he was. Loyal, silly, and so loving. You were the cornerstone of L4L, making it obvious that the HPK breeding was ideal for the mission. Whether it was a Lab, Corso, Malinois, German Shepherd, doodle, or any other breed pup, they all looked to you. Every single pup – over 170 of them (over 100 HPK pups) knew you were the alpha. Not in a domineering way, but as a loving mentor. They chewed on, crawled over, and slept with you. Not once did you grumble at them. Your patience, confidence and kindness were the foundation of their service dog lives.
In the field you were a hunting machine. Calm but eager, there wasn’t a winged bird who could outrun you on the ground. Trees, corn, brush and stock dams did not prevent you from getting that retrieve.
You were a lover. That goofy grin and the way you teased when you were told to drop the wood chips you were eating. Anyone who met you immediately loved you.
Yes, you were all of this and more. But, at the end of the day, you were still Roger’s dog. And that was your most important purpose of all. Until we meet again….
