A Veteran In Need!
Dante is a beautiful robust huskey that escaped from his yard. He was caught by the police roaming the streets and brought to our shelter. We scanned Dante for a microchip and found one! The chip was traced and registered. It went right back to Dante’s owner, Peter. We contacted Peter and he was so happy to learn that Dante was safe and we had him in our possession. Upon his arrival, he was accompanied by a service dog. Peter being a responsible pet owner, provided his I.D. for verification of ownership against the microchip. We learned from Peter that he had just lost his job and had fallen on hard times. Dante would soon be in need of updated vaccines, including Rabies which is required by law. Since our veterans have dedicated their lives to this Country, the very least we could do was show a token of our appreciation. Our licensed veterinarian administered a complimentary rabies shot, along with Boretella and DHLPP vaccines. It was such a pleasure to see this happy three some reunited. I encourage everyone to show appreciation to our Veterans that protect and serve this country.
We see so many Huskies pass through our doors on a regular basis. Here is just a little FYI regarding the breed:
Huskies are renowned for being escape artists due to their high energy levels, intelligence, and natural instincts. They need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation, and if these needs aren't met, they may try to escape to find something interesting to do or to explore. Securing your yard with sturdy fencing, providing ample exercise, and offering mental challenges are crucial for keeping a Husky content and at home.
Animal Welfare League stresses the importance of microchipping your pet. This is an excellent tool in reuniting an owner with their pet, should they ever become separated or lost. The information on the chip must be registered with the microchip company. So many people move, change phone numbers or sometimes transfer ownership but forget to update their records. AWL offers low cost vaccinations and microchipping every Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. to assist the community in keeping their animals update.
We care for hundreds of homeless, abandoned, sick, unwanted and special needs animals on a daily basis. We are able to do this through the donations received from others. If you are interested in supporting our mission, please click on the link below.
