Heidi's Homesteading Journey Hello! I'm on a homesteading journey. I'll be tracking our progress here.

Been raining so much I haven't been out to tour my flowers. Was shocked to see lilies! Will be so fun to plant out here.

Phase II - install gutters.
As with most projects we have a phase before the phase. LOL!
Remove the center pole on the front porch.
Love the metal builders but they did not think about where the poles should go for a residence so they put in 3 poles and the middle one was right smack in front of the door so would have to go left or right to step onto the porch.
Nada!! Think 20 years...
Gus was kind enough to remove the center pole, put in supports and then we'll return to 2 and add left and right of center. We put up plastic so the sparks wouldn't damage the metal.
This had to be done before installing gutters.

I AM SO SO HAPPY!

Our water man. Another very nice guy. Cool & funny story - we don't have good cell service there and Tyler tried to text Gus and couldn't reach him so he decided on a whim to see if he could get in and look around.
We were there and we didn't hear him drive up and had our backs to him. He walked into the building with a very loud, "Hi, I just thought I'd stop by." Needless to say, it scared the bejeebers out of us!
God's timing is absolutely impeccable! We found out he just built a barndo and could pick his brain a bit. A definite divinely appointed connection!

Ivey said her water system is in an aquafer (sp) field that should run thru our property but it is behind the house. We talked with Tyler for quite a while and because of his experience, we felt like drilling water in the front as originally planned is best. He said the fields can sometimes be very wide to catch it in front. As well, the size of drilling equipment is huge and it seemed better to keep it in the front. We're declaring to find water deep enough (15+') and that it's water from heaven - tasting yummy!

Now - waiting for our turn in line as they play catch up due to the heavy rains. It's all good!

The big arrival! The lift for insulation install. Sure looked like it wasn't going to get thru the door and it had already been lowered as far as it could go. When Gus sent pics, Steve said there's still another place to lower. Apparently, they got it in...
I think it took longer to find our place. The neighbor called and said, "Gus, these insulation guys keep driving up and down the road." We do have numbers on a post.
This guy had no problem finding us.
Anywho, pretty funny.

I have to say that EVERYONE we have worked with has been so, so nice. Just a pleasure to get to know them, albeit briefly. We try to compliment and encourage so they enjoy meeting us as well.

Finishing up... Gus is always making a statement. 🥰Glad it's him and not me. Success!!

Whew! The race against time has ended! The spray foam install date was set for May 12-14 (later changed to May 14-16 due to heavy rain and wet ground). We spent hours the past 2+ weeks trying to get the perimeter wall up and cutting the vent holes and then putting vents in place.
This phase was very labor intensive AND tiring!
But it's done! Always safe with God's help. (See the demise of the poisonous snake sunning himself on our porch. 🙄😲😧)

In the mix, the water man came to check out our property and talk about where to drill, baby, drill! All good things. He assured us we will have water by July. They have been hampered, like us, by torrential rains.

Gearing up for Phase II!
