We took advantage of a great opportunity today to get a training day in with a new K9 Team in the area! It would be a great help if you could all go to their page with the link below and give them a like and a follow. If you are feeling extra generous click the 3 dots to the right of the blue message button and invite all your friends to follow them too!

Elk Run Fire Department Search 30 met us at Bilgers Rocks to get some much needed training in together. It is so important for all the area K9 teams to have a good working relationship. It really helps to streamline operations when we have a search in the area and multiple K9 teams are called.

Today we had a pretty unique mock scenario for practice. The scenario was that an 8 month old little girl was abducted by her mother yesterday. They were last seen by the porta potty in Bilgers Rocks heading for the woods. From there they traveled .5 miles through the rocks and were picked up by a vehicle at the main entrance to the Rocks.

All the K9s did a fantastic job the whole way around! This was a difficult trail for several reasons. To start, this trail was already over 24 hours old. Some of the K9s used the scent of the mother and others used the scent of the baby that was being carried on the mother's chest in a carrier. It was extremely rough terrain with lots of twists and turns through the rock formations. It was also the busiest day we have ever seen at Bilgers Rocks. There were people and dogs everywhere all day long which was an added distraction and extra scent contamination. Lastly, all of the K9s not only had to finish the trail but at the end they had to be able to tell their handler that the trail ended where they missing persons had been picked up by a vehicle.

Huge thanks to Rachel (Mom) and Jayde(baby) for laying us a great trail yesterday! They were both home safe and sound today while we braved the heat. We also want to thank the Stover family for coming out to do some additional trails with us!

We wish these two Troopers, their fellow Troopers, the EMT that was injured, and their families a swift recovery both physically and mentally.

Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Lori Wasko that was tragically murdered in her front yard by this psychopath.

There were some heros out there this morning and we are thankful that they were able to help each other to safety and eliminate the threat. May they find peace in knowing that they saved lives and eliminated a menace to society.

Two State Troopers Ambushed and Shot in Susquehanna County

Thompson Township, PA – August 7, 2025

This morning just after 11 a.m., Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were ambushed and seriously wounded while responding to a welfare check in rural Susquehanna County, near Thompson Township, roughly five miles north of Thompson and about 40 miles north of Scranton .

The call began as a domestic dispute at a local home. Upon arrival, the troopers were met with gunfire from a male suspect armed with a rifle. One trooper suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and back and required surgery, while the other was shot in the arm .

Despite being injured, Trooper Perechinsky applied a tourniquet to his partner. A third trooper arrived and helped evacuate the wounded officers. Both were airlifted to hospitals and are currently in stable condition .

The suspect fled into a nearby barn and refused to comply with commands. Tactical teams eventually shot and killed him, ending the threat. Authorities confirm there is no ongoing danger to the public .

Governor Josh Shapiro called the troopers “heroes,” praising Perechinsky’s decisive actions that helped save lives. He also said he plans to visit the area once the situation is fully contained . State Police Col. Christopher Paris echoed the seriousness of the ambush and noted that despite bullet-riddled patrol vehicles, the troopers survived through teamwork and quick thinking .

Recently we have received several requests to deploy without the approval of the agencies in charge of search efforts. Here is some great info on why we cant and won't deploy our mantrailing K9s under those circumstances. Any team that is willing to self deploy isn't worth having involved.

We set up a scent discrimination exercise at practice this morning. At the end of the trail there were 4 members of the Straub family.

Each K9 had to rule out the other 3 family members and tell their handler which member had the correct scent that they were told to look for. Some of the K9s will "check" the other family members but they only alert on the correct one.

In this video you will see K9 Willow check Dad and then put her nose down and head straight for the bleachers. We had both kids switch positions so just minutes before her subject had been sitting in that exact spot on the bleachers. Once she realized that her subject was not there it didn't take her long to check Mom and head straight for her intended subject!
