Meet Iggy!! (keeping the other suggestions especially the J's which will be the next dog)
Today with the help of Sheri Goodwin we saved this little boy from being euthanized on Monday for a broken front leg. He’s a puggle (pug and beagle mix), and about 18 months at 18 lbs. he’ll be seeing our vet on Wednesday to see what he’s going to need to heal him. And thank you to Stacy for helping to collect pledges!

We need a name and it’s got to begin with an I or J since we work through the alphabet. Give us your ideas please.

Sweet quirky Elara is looking for her furever home where you’re her one and only!…she’s good on leash, potty trained and loves watching tv with you or hanging on her doggy bed overnight. She’s about 10lbs and 3years… maybe some papillon or yorkie or Maltese, but definitely adorable!

From hospice to hope — Merlin’s second chance came wrapped in a heartbeat
When we first met Merlin, we believed we’d be giving him comfort, not a cure. This tiny chihuahua mix had a hole in his heart — literally — and we were told the surgery he needed just wasn’t in reach.

Then came the miracle: https://www.facebook.com/CSUVetHospital Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital didn’t just respond, they embraced us. Their SAST grant (Saving Animals in Shelters through Teaching) made what felt impossible… possible.

We drove 1,500 miles with snacks, blankets, and all the love in the world. What we got in return was a healthy heart, a happy pup, and a new forever family — one of his own surgeons fell in love and pre-adopted him! 🐾💓 To the entire Vet team and the SAST program: thank you for turning heartbreak into healing.

Hi, I’m Fallon — 8 pounds of pure travel-sized sweetness with a fluffy white coat and a big heart to match. I’m 4 years old, a Maltese mix, and I come fully equipped: spayed, vaccinated, and scheduled for a dental spa day on 7/28. (Gotta keep this smile sparkling!)

I might be a little shy at first, but give me a moment and I’ll be your shadow, cuddle buddy, and possibly your new pillow partner (yep, I’d rather sleep next to you than in a crate, though I’ll tolerate it if I must). I walk nicely on leash, am potty trained, and I’m a fan of both toys and other pups.

I’d love a home with another friendly dog or a human who’s into long snuggle sessions and soft blankets. If you’ve got love and a cozy spot, I’ve got a lifetime of loyalty waiting for you.

Let’s make each other feel right at home. 🐾

We packed sweaters, snacks, and hope… and it worked
Merlin wasn’t supposed to survive. A severe heart murmur, a scary diagnosis, and a surgery we couldn’t afford. We prepared for goodbye. But love has a way of rallying. Thanks to Two Pups Wellness Fund Two Pups Wellness Fund, one of our longest-standing grant partners, we had the means to go the distance — literally and figuratively.

They stepped up when Merlin needed it most. Their funding helped us say yes to a surgery that saved his life. And today? He’s back home in Arizona, zooming around with joy, learning how to really be a dog — toys, friends, snuggles, and all. Two Pups, thank you for giving hope where others gave up. Merlin's heart is whole because yours was.

When rescue meets resources, everything changes
Merlin’s story was supposed to end quietly — hospice care, short walks, soft blankets. But behind his soft eyes was a spark that wouldn’t quit. We just needed help to fan the flame.

That help came from Phoenix Animal Care Coalition (PACC911) Critical Care Program, which has been a lifeline for so many rescue dogs like Merlin. Their belief in every life having value gave us the courage to try. To reach out. To fight for one little dog with a big broken heart.

Because of PACC911’s grant, we had the support we needed to say yes to surgery. To drive across state lines. To make hope real. Today, Merlin is thriving, adopted, and adored. PACC911, thank you for showing up for the underdogs.

This is not us but please know that puppy love like real love takes patience and nurturing and time.

Sharing again because EVERYONE needs to read this if you are thinking of adopting!!!! Here lately we have more returns coming back and if everyone would think of it this way it could avoid that! We work soooo hard with these dogs and put months of work, foster care, interviews, education to fosters/adopters in and we finally celebrate an adoption…….or do we???? Not usually because seems like lately more are coming back than going out 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

It takes time and patience! No dog deserves to be judged by its first hours, days, even weeks!! It takes time and work!

Adopting a pet? Congrats! You've just picked someone up in your car who isn't great at communicating, just got out of a tough situation, and isn't sure if they trust you yet. Sound familiar? That's because the first three days with a new pet are basically a 72-hour first date.

It's exciting, it's awkward, and it's definitely not the time to start planning your holiday cards or giving them a bubble bath.

No judgment, but some of y'all might need a quick refresher on first-date etiquette. So here's your official guide to early red flags (from you, not them).

🚩 Leaving them unattended like it's no big deal
Imagine showing up to a blind date and immediately getting ditched at a party where you know no one. That's how your pet feels when they're left alone right away.

Bottom line: Don't ghost your new pet. It's day one. Stick close.

🚩 Being too handsy
They're cute. You're smitten. But this isn't the moment for kisses, cuddles, or TikToks with voiceovers. You just met. They don't know your intentions yet.

This isn't a fling; it's the start of something real. Let them come to you. (Consent matters, even in pet parenting.)

🚩 Introducing them to your entire cast of characters
You ever meet someone and they immediately want you to meet their mom? Yikes.

Your pet doesn't need to meet your whole social circle (or animal crew) right away. Let them settle in, one face at a time. Save the group hangs for later.

🚩 Giving them a bath
You wouldn't give someone you just met a bath, and if you would… we don't want to talk about this anymore.

Yes, shelter pets can be a little stinky. But baths are a lot. They're wet, stressful, and weirdly intimate for a pet who doesn't even know your hobbies yet. Spritz some pet-safe essential oils around the house and give them time to decompress before sudsing them up.

🚩 Taking them on a spontaneous adventure
You are not on The Bachelor. No one wants a surprise helicopter ride on day one.

Keep things calm and close to home. No breweries, dog parks, or road trips. Your pet's just trying to figure out which room has the snacks, don't make them learn a whole new location yet.

🚩 Expecting instant love
Some folks swipe right, go on one date, and expect sparks to fly immediately. The same energy applies to new pet parents who expect instant attachment.

Sometimes it does happen, but more often, it's a slow burn. They might hide under the bed, bark at the fridge, or side-eye you for three days straight. It doesn't mean it's not working. It just means you're still getting to know each other.

💘 The Bottom Line: Love doesn't always strike like lightning. Sometimes, it starts with awkward silences, side-eyes, and mutually agreeing that you won't make any sudden moves. But give it time, stay patient, and keep showing up, and you just might find yourself in the best relationship of your life.
