CAT is another AKC sport very similar to FastCAT. CAT is a 400-600 yard timed course. Once you accumulate enough points you can title CA CAA CAX.

What’s the point?
Well if your dog loves to chase things and likes FastCAT they’ll probably love a longer course!

Can I do it?
Yes! Just like FastCAT as long as your dog is a year old and AKC registered you can do it even mixed breeds.

FastCAT is an AKC dog sport where a dog chases a lure for 100 yards and is timed. After you accumulate a certain amount of points you can title BCAT DCAT FCAT FCAT2 FCAT3 etc.

What’s the point?
Fun??! Dogs go crazy for this!

Can I do it?
Any dog can try this, even mixed breeds. Your dog just has to be AKC registered which is really easy to do and at least one year old.

Some favorites at last weekend’s IABCA conformation show!

What is conformation?
Conformation is a sport, aka show, that judges animals based off breed standard. There’s cat shows, dog shows, horse shows, cow shows etc. People take their wellbred purebred into a ring and follow a judge’s instructions that typically involves jogging around to show off movement and a fancy stand called a stack. This is to show off the dog is built correctly and isn’t deformed by back yard breeding.

These two cuties earned their CGCA today!

In between showing my personal dog, Fenrir, I was doing CGC testing for those who wanted to try. Those who didn’t pass just keep trying! Now you know what to work on. Train hard and have fun!

Guy is about 10 months and we’ve got a reliable recall, advancing his heeling, sit, down and implied stays and leave it.

As an AKC evaluator I can evaluate your …

•CGC CGCA (canine good citizen, canine good citizen advanced)
•CGCU (canine good citizen urban)
•TKN TKI TKA TKP TKE (trick novice, intermediate, advanced, performer, elite performer)
•VHMA (virtual home manners adult)
•VHMP (virtual home manners puppy)
(I do not do S.T.A.R puppy classes as of now)

I do not charge for these Evals so you’re free to send them to me through videos! I do charge a small fee for CGC testing because I have to be in person for those. Board and trains are able to get free testings of the CGCs after their board to show off their skills to their owners.

🐩I have a mixed breed, can I still do this?
Yes! AKC is not a program just for purebreds.

🐩My dog is old.
That’s ok! Old dogs can learn new tricks.

🐩What’s the point?
Fun! These are titles that come with certificates and ribbons to showcase your training goals.

🐩How do I train for it?
You can find the training requirements online or asking me. Most of these you can do by sending me videos!

Working Guy for his food this morning

Reintroducing gearing up and introducing body awareness exercises.
Starting with walking in big circles and the end result will be him moving when I move and turning when I turn. I feel like not enough people show the sloppy start to introducing new things to their dogs. This is where Guy is starting and where he’ll end is weeks and months of work ahead.

Guy got to meet potential placement today!

We talked about symptoms of his disability so I can get a feel for possible tasks and contract stuff. While it’s important to match dogs with their people via lifestyle etc, I also think it’s important for clients to LIKE their service dog I’m training. This isn’t a pet, Guy will be a highly trained dog who is legally medically equipment if he passes all his training and health tests. I want his future handler to not only get help, but like who is helping them.

This doesn’t mean Guy is leaving me for a new home now or that he’s spoken for. Just means he has someone interested while he keeps training here.
