🐶❤️ Important Update for Pet Owners! ❤️🐶

We've seen an alarming increase in heartworm cases in dogs at our clinic recently.

👉 What is Heartworm Disease?Heartworms are parasitic worms spread by mosquitoes. They live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of infected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and can be fatal if left untreated. Infection is often invisible in its early stages.

👉 Prevention is Key!The good news? Heartworm disease is completely preventable. A simple monthly medication or yearly injection can protect your pet year-round.

⚠️ 50% of the heartworm cases we have diagnosed have been on monthly prevention. Missing even one dose / being late with administration can put your pet at risk ⚠️

👉 whilst infected dogs can be treated, Treatment is expensive, intensive, and risky compared to easy prevention

👉Even indoor dogs are at risk….mosquitoes can and do get inside.

Cats are much less likely to be infected

✅ What You Can Do:
• Keep your dog on consistent year-round heartworm prevention.

📞 Call us today on 65437111 and ask our staff about the best prevention option for your pet. (A blood test may be necessary before prevention is started)

Did you know that Satur Vets’ large animal veterinarian, Sam Johnstone is an Australian Cattle Vets (ACV) BULLCHECK accredited bull tester?

If you know what that means, skip this next bit- but if you’re wondering what all that is about please keep reading.

‘Bull testing’ as it is commonly known is the process of performing a Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Exam (VBBSE). A VBBSE consists of your vet examining a bull or bulls for structural soundness, general health, examination of your bulls internal and external reproductive organs and the collection and assessment of a semen sample for motility (movement) and morphology (individual shape) of the s***m cells. But what does all this achieve? A bull that has passed a VBBSE gives a very good indicator that bull is likely to be fertile and produce plenty of viable pregnancies in a suitable joining window.

It also gives you confidence if you are selling or buying a bull that he will be fit for intended purpose.

So why is now a good time of year to test your bulls?

- Autumn calving herds will be joined soon, so it is good to get your bulls tested before they are turned out.

- The Autumn bull sale season has started, so now is a good time to buy more bulls if yours do not pass a VBBSE.

- If you are a stud producer looking to sell bulls, you can give the people who buy your stock an extra degree of confidence knowing that they have been tested by an accredited veterinarian.

Even if you have never had your bulls tested before and never had a problem, there is no guarantee that they will be fertile this time around.

Please contact the clinic on (02) 6543 7111 to book an on-farm appointment to have your bulls tested or ask for Sam if you have any more questions!
