The Power of Play 🐾🧡🏏
Here to remind you that play isn’t just fun – it’s one of the most powerful ways to build connection and keep our dogs truly engaged with us 🙏.
Last week, we added this brilliant training dummy from Dog and Field to our walks – and it’s been a total game-changer, especially for our working breeds who love a job to do. It taps into natural instincts and helps keep them focused and fulfilled.
🎾 Why play matters:
Play strengthens the bond between human and dog more than almost anything else. It builds trust, improves communication, and reinforces that you are the most exciting thing in your dog’s world – not that squirrel in the bushes or the German shepherd on lead 50ft away 😅
It also supports:
🧠 Mental stimulation
❤️ Emotional connection
💪 Physical exercise
🎯 Behaviour shaping (yes, fun can also be functional!)
🐶 Tailoring play to your dog:
• Retrievers like, Bella and Rosie ⬇️, thrive with fetch-based games – the dummy mimics the work they were bred to do.
• Scent-driven breeds love games that let them sniff and search. Hiding the dummy and letting them find it taps into that natural instinct.
• Herding breeds often engage best with movement and control-based games.
• And some dogs? Just want to roll in the grass and play chase with their mates – and that’s valid too!
The trick is finding what makes your dog light up – and using that to build a deeper, more responsive relationship. Taping into their natural instincts is a great place to start. Whether you’re training, bonding, or just blowing off steam – play is always time well spent. 🥰
