Had to say goodbye to Dexy today after discovering a tumor that wasn't going to give her to the end of the day. She was supposed to be my dog but bonded with Connie, and thus was responsible for us getting another Grey. She was whip-smart for a Greyhound and learned lots of crowd pleasing tricks, loved the attention she got during walks at Hartville Hardware, and was expert at finding food we had carelessly left within reach of her noodle nose (which is how she developed a taste for lattes). Run free, beautiful girl.

With heavy hearts, Connie, Dexy and I said farewell to our faithful companion Ripley today. She was born on a farm to working parents and came to live with us and guard chickens and 4-H goats. She moved into our house when the animals left and guarded us from hawks, wolves and sirens on the TV (and outside). Her temperament and love of people led us to getting her certification as a Therapy Dog, where she enjoyed a brief career of visiting shut-ins. She was sidelined by the onset of Lupus, which she fought bravely, even insisting on trying to guard Connie on walks. Truly a unique dog in our family history. We will never have another like her.

I am Ripley. I have been very weak and sick with Lupus. Silly Dexy tries to play with me but I am too tired. I do not care about the squeaky toy or which rug to sleep on. Silly Dexy always watches to see if I try to get them. I just sleep. Her needlenose is too busy watching to sleep.

This is Dexy, very smart Greyhound - I have learned the best treat EVER and Ripley does not like it so I do not have to share. It is the round sweet crunchy thing the Alphas call apple. Sooo yummy to lick and bite and crunch. Good Hands Man says it is a good treat. My Alphas say, "An apple a day keeps the vet away!"

Dexy decided to get her own supper tonight: a piece of coconut cream pie and a package of seaweed snacks. Then she said she wanted the cheese in the funny spray can. I said, "We don't have opposable thumbs, we can't get it out." Dexy said, "Yeah? Just watch me..."

I think my Alphas broke Dexy.

This is Dexy. I am smart. My Alphas are not very smart. I told the Female Alpha what I wanted over and over and she kept asking.

Sometimes Silly Dexy lets me sleep in the same room. It is nice with both Alphas there.

I am still smarter than Dexy. Someone knocked the cornflakes off. Soneone ate half the cereal. Alphas think it was Silly Dexy. It was me!

I am Dexy. My Alpha Male takes me on long walks. When we walked yesterday a big rattling yellow thing was in front of us. I am smart and fast. I jumped away from this scary thing. My Alpha called it "leaf". My alpha keeps talking about me and "leaf". I do not know why he keeps laughing.
