Cora wants LOVE and LOTS of it! At the kennel, she 'hounds' us for attention and kisses, as if her life depended on it! When she goes for her walk, it is clear that she would really prefer that we sit down with her and rub her belly and scratch her chest with a requisite number of kisses applied to her head! She's such a sweetie, though her size can be daunting which is why older children and adults who have big dog experience would be preferable for her. We all love Cora and pray she receives the furever family she deserves! If you are interested in Cora, check out our website at dalrescuesocal.com

Yesterday Bobbie got a much needed grooming! This funky-eyed boy looks gorgeous and his fur is, once again, silky soft! Bobbie is an Australian Cattledog mix who gets along with other dogs though would be fine as the only pup. He doesn't do well with cats. An active family with older children would be best for him. If you are interested please go to dalrescuesocal.com

Lauren is the biggest LOVE! She is approximately 3 years old and a mix of Cattledog & Australian Shepherd. She arrived at our kennel with her 3 sisters who were rescued from a high-kill shelter. She is well-behaved, loves to play, gets along with other dogs, and would be fine with older children and an active family. Everyone loves this little girl and knows there is a furever family out there for her! If you are interested go to dalrescuesocal.com

Buffy is a very typical cattledog. She is super sweet but has herding behaviors which can be off-putting for those lacking experience with the breed or unwilling to give grace and time to train and acclimate the dog to their new life. Our volunteers LOVE Buffy, but noticed that she quickly dips her head and cowers which indicates possible abuse, which we've seen before with another cattledog we had. Buffy needs a patient family, no children, who are willing to take time with her and help her make good decisions by not putting her in situations where she's bound to fail. We love our Buffy girl and know there is someone out there who will make a difference in her life!

This is a spot-free post! (We are a rescue for dogs in need, after all.) Sometimes our pups get to have a playdate with our very human walkers. We are always surprised at the personality shift in some pups away from the kennel. Teddy arrived as a young pup who had been gifted to a family who didn't have the energy for him. He is now full grown and can be quite assertive and needy with those walking him. However, Allison and Kevin spent a couple hours with him on the beach (on leash) and said he loved the surf and sand, as much as the car ride! Teddy was well-behaved and much calmer. Not reactive with other dogs running around loose and not much interested in any one other than his handlers. Allison agrees he would make a great companion for an active couple.

I read a post on a neighborhood site that gave me pause. A woman was scolding another rescue group for not considering her and her family for a puppy they wanted and even stated that there was one thing the rescue docked them for (though didn't mention what that was and it could be a lulu!) and said that during a call they were hung up on and never got a return call back (though she didn't mention the tone of the communication). The final snarky comment was "I guess they must have all the dog adopters they need." Regardless of how perfect one thinks they are for a dog, rescues are in the non-profit business of making the best decision with what they know about the dog and the potential families (lots of choices being made). Reminder--these are dogs that wound up in rescue for no fault of their own and we don't want history repeated. When we are taken to task on social media there is often a desire to do some damage and have "their pound of flesh". Is the intent to steer people away from a legitimate group that is trying to do what's best? Furthermore, who gets hurt when that's done? Answer: the dogs awaiting furever families.

When rescuing a dog you are saving not only their life, but may be saving your own! Louie's dad wrote us, "8 years ago you contacted me about taking on another rescue Dal. This is to thank you. On 1-19-2018 my brother Dennis passed from cancer. I was devastated and sinking fast when you contacted me. Louie saved me. I loved Zeus but he was also sinking (he passed a week after I brought Louie home) Louie has been incredible. Even 8 years later I marvel at him. Thank you!" Rescue work isn't easy and it's often heart-breaking, but the reward of knowing you've placed a dog in the best-ever forever home is indescribable!

Luke and his sister, Sara, were rescued from the streets of Tijuana about four years ago. They were in rough condition but immediately acclimated to kennel life. Sara had a bullet graze scar on her hip and Luke had a noticeable lump on his neck. While Sara seemed fine, his health began to decline. Fearing it was cancer, our rescue brought him to a vet who discovered and removed a bullet from his neck. Luke was placed in foster care to recover where he has remained. He loves his life and his foster friends, human and K-9 (he's the friendliest boy!), but despite surviving a dangerous battle wound we now learned he has a subluxated hip (partial separation of the hip joint) which requires expensive surgery. His prognosis for recovery is good, but we need donations to cover the $2-4K surgery. Please help our Luke! You can send a check, payable to Dalmatian Rescue of Southern California at 20301 Riverside Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660 or link to our Paypal at dalrescuesocal.com. Anything you can contribute would help Luke!

When artist and long-time kennel volunteer captured Lucky on canvas in oil, I was thrilled to know another person recognized what a treasure this rugged, but adorable tank of a dog is! Lucky's family surrendered him to the San Francisco shelter when they relocated. Because he was so sweet we were contacted and moved mountains to transport him to our kennel. Lucky is very sweet and LOVES hugs and kisses from his humans, a requirement of which we are more than happy to comply! He is great with all people and most dogs so long as they don't get up in his grill! Lucky isn't the prettiest pup but his beauty comes from within. Won't someone take a chance on this fantastic boy? You can find him on our "Adopt a Dal" link on dalrescuesocal.com.
