It’s been a while since I’ve posted on Wildwood Ranch! I recognize I need to do better.
So we are preparing and somewhat prepared for the ice that’s about to come. Right now we’re enjoying the quiet morning and taking a moment. We will be checking on horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, pig, livestock guardian, dogs, barn, cats every hour to make sure all is well.  Making sure all the animals have lots of hay and fuel to keep them warm as well as water buckets, and water troughs that are not frozen over. As long as we keep power, we’re gonna be in good shape.
If you have tips and tricks that you can share, I’ll take them!!

Rescues
The neglect changes you.
The abuse hardens you....
The suffering breaks you.
The ignorance angers you.
The indifference disturbs you.

On a daily basis…your faith will be tested.
Your heart will be wounded....
Your soul will be altered.
On a weekly basis…you’ll question yourself.
You’ll question your strength.
You’ll question the world.
On a monthly basis…you’ll fall down.
You’ll get up.
You’ll go on…
On a yearly basis…you’ll look back…
You’ll see faces…
You couldn’t save them.
You’ll learn to mourn.
To grieve.
To sob.
You’ll learn to trust a little less.

You’ll learn to fail.

For them… and because of them.
In your darkest hours, you’ll look around…To find the differences made…the hope given…and the lives saved…
Because you existed.
In those moments, when you look into their eyes…every doubt will be erased.

Thank you Daniel Gunderson for keeping my herd of 7 comfortable and sound. You had special patience with Rembrandt today…our newest herd addition. Hopefully next time it won’t be as scary for him…blind ponies are a bit of a challenge and you were fabulous! His hoofs look great! And of course with the special shoeings and time spent on Sidan and Lui always keeps them sound and happy!

Good morning!
All is well at Wildwood Ranch besides cold and snowy. Lol
I was out at 7:00 am and 20 degrees with pretty snow flakes coming down. All the animals are fed and happy I had to break up all the ice in the outside water troughs but all animals are fed, clean water and happy to be out and about. I cleaned all stalls, refilled hay bags, threw unlimited amounts of hay in the hay feeders.
What a blessing…Since I got the barn doors I closed up barn last night and it was a toasty 40 degrees in the barn, it was so nice that none of the water buckets froze! I threw extra alfalfa last night and everyone got salt in their feed so they are all drinking. But boy were they happy to get out of their stalls this morning… lol running and bucking they love this cold weather.
