On Monday this week, Otter, our critical response and trauma service dog 🐾 received a very special gift. Qwaya Sam from Cedar Elementary presented Otter with a beautiful painting, featuring the Nuu-chah-nulth word WaaXNi, which means Otter. While this wasn't an official naming ceremony, Otter and his handler and district counselor, Sherry Laffling were honoured to be part of a canoe with drummers, singers, and student paddlers as a way of welcoming Otter to the team. It was a very moving moment — one that brought tears to a few eyes. 💙

The painting is being converted to a drawing so that it can be used for stickers and maybe even a badge on Otter's vest as Otter works to bring comfort and support to students and staff. 🐶💛
