This week our💡SHELTER SPAWLIGHT💡is Humane Society Lake City!

Lake City Humane Society (LCHS), established in 1964 as a nonprofit, partners with Lake City and Columbia County to shelter, rehabilitate, and rehome over 5,000 at-risk cats and dogs annually . They operate under a no-kill philosophy, offering affordable wellness services, sterilization programs, and community education while promoting the human–animal bond . Staffed by dedicated professionals and volunteers, LCHS collaborates with local and national rescue organizations and runs outreach efforts, including thrift-store fundraising, to support its mission . Their vision is to be Columbia County’s premier advocate and resource for animal welfare, aiming to end euthanasia as a population control method.

Back in 2016, Chris and Christie Dennis were looking to start their own company while also giving back — thus GivePet was born. Through its extensive range of grain-free, human-grade , GivePet provides support to shelters and pets in need, one bag of treats at a time.

“Homeless dogs and cats are a huge, huge problem and very much in crisis right now,” Christie explained. “… It’s very important for people to understand that and to support shelters and rescues in any way that they can, and this is our way of doing that.”

This week our💡SHELTER SPAWLIGHT💡is Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue!

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue (YGRR), founded in 1985 in Hudson, MA, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to saving Golden Retrievers and golden‑hearted dogs across New England. They provide individualized medical care, behavior training, and enrichment while dogs are in their care and match each to a loving forever home. Supported by donations, volunteers, and foster families, YGRR has successfully rehomed over 6,000 dogs. Their adoption process involves application, home visit, and matching approved applicants with screened, healthy dogs ready for adoption

This week our💡SHELTER SPAWLIGHT💡is Hurricane Creek K9!

Hurricane Creek K9 runs a licensed rescue program called “Rescue to Resource,” focused on rehabilitating at-risk dogs—especially working breeds—from shelters or difficult backgrounds. Their goal is to give each dog a second chance, whether through adoption into loving homes or placement in working roles like police or protection. All rescue dogs receive a 25% discount on training programs to support their transition. The rescue carefully screens applicants to ensure a good match and highlights success stories like Luna, a sweet pup rescued from severe neglect.
