TW: Pet loss
It is with an absolutely broken heart that I share that Daffy gave up her ghost last night, and I will miss her forever. Thank you all for your kindness all these past 10 years.
In June, Daffy had an aggressive UTI that went straight to her kidneys in a matter of days. She was hospitalized for 4 days, but sustained significant kidney damage. While she improved in the hospital and we hoped she'd stabilize and live some more years as a CKD cat, after a couple of really good months, her kidneys failed and I had to let her go last night. Had I not gotten her to the vet quickly in that initial infection, we wouldn't have had the extra time that we did. Thanks to Veterinary Emergency Services in Verona, VA for taking the best care of Daffy. I am forever grateful for the extra time with her.

I have some sad and unexpected news to share. Polly passed away today. She had a large tumor in her larynx that even if found to be benign, the vet thought based on the xrays and ultrasound it would be inoperable. Based on how fast it grew and how quickly she lost weight and how much pain she was in, he thinks it was malignant, chondrosarcoma, which has a poor prognosis even with surgery and radiation. I decided it was best to let her go rather than put her through that. My heart is broken.

Polly was almost 10 years old, but her body was much older after her rough start to life. She had bad arthritis in her reconstructed leg, but the last year and a half she gained back some of her youth with a kitten in the house. Polly was mad about the kitten at first but eventually became the one that would chase her around and play with her. This came out of the blue and feels like a bad dream.

Rest in peace, pretty girl.
