VT Dog Rescue We rescue mixed breed dogs of all ages from high kill shelters in the South, rehabilitate and place them in loving homes.

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit dog rescue. While there are many canine rescue organizations, our focus is on saving the underdog. The dogs who are passed over simply because they are not perfect. These dogs may have lost a leg or are shy. An underdog may be an older dog who is not as active as he used to be or one with a heart murmur. Dogs who have had a rough start in life but against all odds, ha

ve retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love unconditionally. We believe the underdogs deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

❗️Urgent -Rumi Needs a New Home❗️

Rumi is a sweet, loyal 4½-year-old lab mix who’s been by his owner’s side since he was just a pup. But now, due to failing health, his owner can no longer care for him the way he needs. Rumi is desperately looking for his new home... and he doesn’t understand why his world is changing. He doesn't know what he’s done wrong. 😢

Rumi is a handsome, smart boy who’s always kept watch over the home. He’s great at letting you know if someone (or another dog) is nearby, and he’s got so much love and potential. But he needs more exercise, training, and structure than his person can now provide him with.

We’re looking for a new home where Rumi can thrive - with someone who’s active, confident, and able to give him the guidance he needs. He does best with clear boundaries and a calm, steady presence. Rumi has been through training before, so he has a great foundation. He just needs a handler who understands his quirks.

Please help us find the right person for Rumi. His owner’s only wish is for Rumi to be safe, happy, and loved. That is our wish for him too!

Rumi's adoption fee has been reduced to $200, but what is most important is finding the right match - someone who can provide Rumi the love and stability he deserves.

Introducing our newest rescue, Patty❣️

“Pretty girl Patty” is a local surrender who has found herself needing a new home after her owner recently passed away. 😔 She is guessed to be between 8 & 10 yrs old and weighs 35 lbs. A healthy weight would be a few pounds less. 😉

Patty is an easy going, nap loving beagle mix. While she loves lounging on the couch, don’t let this senior lady fool you, she trots along on walks with her nose to the ground (like a true hound)! 🐕

She is gentle with food, good with other dogs and animals, and has great manners. This laid-back girl would do well in a calm environment where she can receive lots of love and affection.

Happy Saturday! What adventures are you headed out on today?🐾

Sammy has been having a great time in his foster home - visiting the Canadian vineyards and stopping at the local snack bar for a pup cup! He is loving life in Vermont so far! Now, if he can just find his forever family... 🥰

Sammy is 6 mos old and weighs 30 lbs. We expect him to stay small to medium size as an adult. Sammy is a sweetheart! He is good with dogs (and probably cats), rides well in the car, is neutered and up to date on vaccinations, potty and crate trained. Sammy is a special pup who loves affection from his humans. He's quite smart too which makes training easier. Sammy lost the tip of his ear when his kennelmate at the shelter attacked him, but Sammy didn't hold a grudge. He is a happy and loving boy! 💙

🐾 Spotlight on our sweet mama, Juniper! 🐾

Meet Juniper, a sweet, loving and resilient mama who’s come a long way and is now ready to find a home of her own. Here are her "before and after" photos.

Juniper arrived at the shelter emaciated and heartworm positive, along with her three underweight puppies. Thanks to a caring foster mom in the South and the support of the rescue community, Juniper and her pups began to recover and thrive. One of the pups was adopted in the south, and her two other pups, Bailey and Tazzy, were welcomed into VT Dog Rescue and have both found homes. Now, it’s Juniper’s turn! 🙏

We’re so grateful to Companions for raising the funds needed for her heartworm treatment, and to her amazing southern foster mom for giving her the time and care she needed to heal. The transformation is incredible! 🙌

Juniper arrives next Saturday, and we’re so excited to welcome her. She’s come such a long way, and now she’s ready for what she’s always deserved: a safe, loving home where she can be nurtured and well cared for.

Buddy was recently neutered and brought up to date on his vetting. He is ready for his new home!

Buddy is a local owner surrender, about 2 yrs old, and weighs 23 lbs. Buddy is a character who will keep you laughing. He gets along with all dogs and we think he would be fine with cats. He does love being around his humans and is an affectionate guy.

🔸 Meet Sammy! 🔸

This sweet boy is about 6 months old and weighs 30 lbs (he may look bigger in pictures, but he’s a compact little guy!).

Sammy just arrived on Saturday and is getting settled into his foster home. We’ll share more about his personality as we get to know him better.

Sammy came to a Mississippi shelter at just 10 weeks old. Sadly, he was attacked by his kennel mate and lost part of his ear. Despite that tough start, Sammy is great with other dogs and tends to be quite submissive.

He’s already house trained, crate trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccines.

Meet Buddy! 🐾

2 years old • 23 lbs • Pomeranian mix (we think!)

Buddy is a bundle of fun with just the right mix of chill and playful energy. He’s a total snuggle bug who’s happiest curled up next to you—but don’t be surprised if he breaks out into a zoomie session now and then!

He LOVES people (especially when you come home—tail wags galore!) and gets along great with other dogs. Chickens? Not so much—he thinks they’re for chasing. Buddy has not been exposed to cats.

Buddy’s a little watchdog and will bark at people or dogs walking by, just to let you know he’s on duty. He’s potty trained, well-behaved in the house, and can be left alone without any trouble. He walks great on a leash and is a big fan of belly rubs and attention. 💕

He’s okay in the car but still working on feeling comfy—he shows a bit of anxiety. And when it comes to food, Buddy’s a bit of a picky eater, but who isn’t? This sweet boy loves to hang out in the yard and chew on his favorite toys (Chuck-it balls and plush toys).

Bailey is 4 months old and weighs about 25 lbs. She has a very sweet and playful disposition. Her foster mom (who is also a trainer) is very pleased with Bailey's developing social skills - Bailey seems to love everyone and everything as long as she is provided gentle and controlled introductions.

Bailey loves the water and has webbed feet. This pup can be very silly and is affectionate and loving. 🥰

Buddy is now accepting applications! 💙

This special pup is 2 years old, weighs 23 lbs and is thought to be a Pomeranian mix. Buddy is a local dog who needs rehoming due to the loss of housing.

Buddy is a great mix of energy - he has moments of playfulness but also loves belly rubs and snuggles! Not only is this boy adorable, but he is very friendly, gets along well with other dogs, and is a great watchdog! 🐾

We recently received this update from Bella’s adopter…

“About 9 years ago, we adopted now Bella, sister to Bert. She is doing great and has been a blessing over the years. She is a little black lab/pit bull mix lady, (we think) built like a 55 lb mack truck and fast as the wind. She is a smart, loving, cuddly, inquisitive girl who loves her morning body and belly rubs. She has to know where her Mama is at all times, and loves to play with her other family pup cousins. Bella has yet to see a human or dog that she doesn't want to say hi and lets play together. What Vermont Dog Rescue does is bring happiness to the lives of these pups and those lucky enough to have them.”

We are thrilled to hear Bella is still doing so well and providing her adoptive mom with lots of love and companionship. Thank you for the update and for adopting with VT Dog Rescue! 🙏🏻❤️

Our approach to the adoption process is friendly, warm, compassionate & understanding. We care about our dogs and we are thankful for our applicants. We work with local businesses to secure discounted prices for our adopters on dog related services such as grooming, training, boarding & daycare. Our volunteers create the handmade beds we send home with each dog and we provide useful resources in our Adoption Kit.

VT Dog Rescue saves dogs of all breeds at all ages from puppies to seniors. We can help you find the perfect dog for your family and we provide lifetime support for that pup.
