VT Dog Rescue We rescue mixed breed dogs of all ages from high kill shelters in the South, rehabilitate and place them in loving homes.

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit dog rescue. While there are many canine rescue organizations, our focus is on saving the underdog. The dogs who are passed over simply because they are not perfect. These dogs may have lost a leg or are shy. An underdog may be an older dog who is not as active as he used to be or one with a heart murmur. Dogs who have had a rough start in life but against all odds, ha

ve retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love unconditionally. We believe the underdogs deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

Buddy has been adopted! His mom recently sent this update, "Buddy is a treasure! He settled right in to our routine! He loves lots of walks around the farm, keeping me company in the office, snuggling in bed and on our laps! Stephanie did an amazing job with him! He is so smart and happy and eager to please! We look forward to many fun adventures together!"

Buddy is one lucky pup! Thank you to his wonderful adopters for providing this sweet boy lots of love and adventures around the farm and lake! Happy life, Buddy! 💛

Bailey has been adopted! This girl has won over the hearts of her new family. Here’s what her mom recently shared, “Our incredible Bailey is absolutely thriving in her new home, and we couldn't imagine life without her. This sweet girl is a champion snuggler, an instant friend to all, and loves her outdoor fun – especially zoomies in the yard and splashing in her kiddie pool! Our hearts are full of gratitude for Bailey and everyone who helped with her rescue, transport, and foster care. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Juniper “Junie” is now in VT and settling in to her foster home. Junie’s two pups, Tazzy and Bailey, were recently adopted and we are excited that it’s finally Juniper’s turn! 🙏🏻

Juniper is an adorable 2 yo mixed breed weighing about 40 lbs. She is a petite size and appears much larger in photos than she truly is. 😉 Junie has had a rough start to life. She had been living as a stray trying to care for herself and her young pups. She was brought into the shelter completely emaciated and undernourished. She also tested positive for heartworm. Due to a wonderful shelter organization in the south, Juniper was treated, spayed, nursed back to health, and is now ready to start her new journey.

Junie is full of personality. She is active, agile, curious and very smart! She likes being outside and exploring, but also can keep herself entertained with dog toys and treat puzzles. She is very food motivated making her training easy. Juniper would make an excellent hiking partner, agility partner, hunting sidekick, or frisbee dog (she’s working on that!).

A natural watch dog, Junie is very alert to her surroundings. She also has a soft affectionate side that is becoming more apparent as she learns to trust. We don’t think she’s had lots of opportunity for human affection in her early years so she is very much enjoying belly rubs and massages. 🥰

Juniper has been around dogs and done well, but we think a home without cats would be best. A fenced yard is strongly encouraged.

Patty had a great vet visit this week and is ready to find her new forever home! She is a local surrender whose owner recently passed away. 😢

Patty is an 8 year old beagle mix. She is sweet, laid back, gets along with dogs, but it’s human attention she craves the most.

Patty enjoys daily walks and car rides. She also loves going to work with her foster mom and is well behaved in the office! :). Overall, Patty is an easy keeper who just wants love and affection.

🎉FOREVER HOME FRIDAY UPDATE🎉

Tazzy (now Sissy) has been adopted! She will live in southern Vermont with her mom, dad, and bestie (her canine sister, Luna)! 💞

Here’s an update from her mom,
“It is going AMAZING. She loves Luna. They run and play outside non stop. She loves to follow Luna wherever she goes. She is such a sweet and affectionate puppy; she discovered the box of Luna's toys inside today and she went nuts running around with the zoomies...she's playing with every toy she found. It was great. … the girls are running and playing like they've known each other for years. She looks like Luna's twin and her name is now Sissy because she's Luna's little sissy 😁 We adore her!!”

Sissy in in very good hands and will be well-loved and taken care of in the years to come. Happy life sweet girl! 💖💖

❗️Urgent -Rumi Needs a New Home❗️

Rumi is a sweet, loyal 4½-year-old lab mix who’s been by his owner’s side since he was just a pup. But now, due to failing health, his owner can no longer care for him the way he needs. Rumi is desperately looking for his new home... and he doesn’t understand why his world is changing. He doesn't know what he’s done wrong. 😢

Rumi is a handsome, smart boy who’s always kept watch over the home. He’s great at letting you know if someone (or another dog) is nearby, and he’s got so much love and potential. But he needs more exercise, training, and structure than his person can now provide him with.

We’re looking for a new home where Rumi can thrive - with someone who’s active, confident, and able to give him the guidance he needs. He does best with clear boundaries and a calm, steady presence. Rumi has been through training before, so he has a great foundation. He just needs a handler who understands his quirks.

Please help us find the right person for Rumi. His owner’s only wish is for Rumi to be safe, happy, and loved. That is our wish for him too!

Rumi's adoption fee has been reduced to $200, but what is most important is finding the right match - someone who can provide Rumi the love and stability he deserves.

VT Dog Rescue is not like other rescues. We strive to be the breath of fresh air, the rebels who rock the boat. A rescue with a heart and soul dedicated to placing homeless dogs in loving homes. Our approach to the adoption process is friendly, warm, compassionate & understanding. We care about our dogs and we are thankful for our applicants. We work with local businesses to secure discounted prices for our adopters on dog related services such as grooming, training, boarding & daycare. Our volunteers create the handmade beds we send home with each dog and we provide useful resources in our Adoption Kit.

VT Dog Rescue saves dogs of all breeds at all ages from puppies to seniors. We can help you find the perfect dog for your family and we provide lifetime support for that pup.
