WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ZODIAC'S MONTHLY CHOW SPONSOR? (... HE IS ALSO UP FOR ADOPTION!)

Venus Doggess Of Love is very grateful to Zodiac's foster in Trinidad. She has cared for him (providing a loving foster home and driving him back and forth to vet visits) since late last year when we rescued him from Tobago and sent him to Trini for leg surgery, which was very successful.

He is now a TOTALLY different dog from the tick-infested lame creature someone called me to assist in 2024.

He is vibrant, loving, affectionate, great with other dogs and cats ... but sadly (as he bled behind his eyes during surgery) he went blind.

HOWEVER, he gets around very well and one would not even know he is visually impaired. NOTE: He does not like to be alone...perhaps because of his visual impairment. He likes to have a human or other animal nearby.

He is a big boy, and loves his belly. If anyone is willing to sponsor a large bag of dog chow for him now, please contact Venus Doggess Of Love. A large bag of chow will be an ongoing request until he is adopted.

He appreciates being indoors, but is toilet trained and likes to do his 'stuff' in the grass, loves to be in the grass on the whole, loves being outdoors playing. Although seeing impaired, he knows how to chase and retrieve a ball. He is a great dog who needs a loving opportunity/forever home.

Small Tobago kittens in an empty lot across from where a friend lives. He sent this video. They may have been born there...or may have been dumped. Not sure. He only heard them crying yesterday. Does anyone want to adopt? If left there, they may unfortunately run into the road and be at the mercy of passing vehicles.

Swift adoption to good homes is their best bet!

Contact Venus Doggess Of Love to be connected.

Note: Silent fireworks do in fact make noise ... but this is still a great start and can be fine tuned. TTT reached out to ask for our thoughts on the matter. What is your perspective?

Government’s move to cancel the Independence Day fireworks display and allowing "silent and noiseless fireworks for private use" has sparked much discussion in the animal rights arena. TTT news connected with animal rights advocates, Sita Kuruvilla and Elspeth Duncan for more.

This is fantastic news! 31 August is being declared a time for prayer and reflection rather than firework displays. The only thing that gives a pause is that permits are being issued for private use of 'silent' fireworks. To begin with, silent fireworks are not actually silent...and one wonders to whom (and how many) those permits will be given. Nevetherless, a long-awaited step in the right direction—and fine-tuning will come in time. This is what we call progress.

P.S. An example of 'silent' fireworks. Not silent at all.

Government has announced that the annual Independence Day Parade this year will be replaced with a National Day of Prayer and Reflection due to the State of Emergency.

UPDATE: The owner contacted me after she returned to the Tobago Animal Hospital to collect Pinkie. She was told that one of Pinkie's eyes is badly damaged, with maggots behind it, and it will have to be removed. The vet quoted her $1,000. Her son will be contributing $500. They will be grateful for any donations to help them cover the balance, as they also have to purchase meds.

*****
UPDATE: Thank you to the kind person who has offered to cover the balance of the initial part of the bill (quoted below).

*****
DONATIONS NEEDED TO ASSIST PINKIE.

(Video shows Pinkie on night of attack)

Pinkie's owner called in distress this morning ... to say that recently Pinkie was attacked by a dog. She tried tending to the wounds herself with aloes and bush (an option many people take because they cannot afford vet fees) but that was not sufficient . . . and maggots began to set in.

This is why she called VDOL for help...and thank goodness she did or Pinkie would have been eaten away. The maggots were festering in her body wounds and also in her eyes, which were bulging out after the attack.

The bill at the Tobago Animal Hospital so far amounts to $1,003.99 inclusive of maggot wound cleaning, sedation, pain killers and antibiotics.

If anyone can assist with donations to help over the bill please contact Venus Doggess Of Love. Unfortunately, our NGO's finances are rapidly dwindling and we cannot afford to put money of our own towards this (or any) case. But at the same time, we could not leave the dog to suffer simply because her owner cannot afford the full bill. She said she can manage $500TT.

Please do not make comments like "She should not have a dog if she cannot pay vet bills." She is a very caring woman who works hard at her crafts, loves her dogs and has had two of them spayed under VDOL at our low cost clinics and two done at the shelter/A360's low cost.

Please contact VDOL if you can help to sponsor Pinkie.

Love changes lives

Venus Doggess of Love NGO (Non profit organisation) is creating better lives for Tobago’s dogs and cats (and sometimes other species) through rescue work and humane education. Venus rescues and rehabilitates homeless animals, spays/neuters and rehomes them to safe, loving homes (local and foreign). As a currently small scale operation, VDL is more about animal rescue quality (highly personalized attention and care) than mass quantity. A lot of the rescue work is made possible through case-specific donations from kind followers of the VDL page, offline donations and fundraising ventures.

On a voluntary basis, Venus invests time and energy in: (i) Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals (ii) producing films, photographs and written material to educate, raise awareness, promote compassion or encourage fostering/adoption of rescued animals.

In Tobago, the dogs and cats (homeless, underprivileged and owned-but-neglected) are in crisis. Unless there is intervention, animals roam the streets and beaches, mating throughout life, putting stress on their bodies and contributing to rampant overpopulation. Many owned dogs are tied on short chains in the elements (scorching heat, rain) with little or no shade, often without basic needs like food and water. One wonders if there is awareness of their existence as living, sentient beings. Many are not touched or spoken to. Names are often simply “Dog” or “Cat”, so there is no acknowledgment of each animal being an individual with inherent enough value to be given a name. It is as if they are invisible. And these are the simple issues. The more extreme problems involve unthinkable abuse and rampant poisoning with no recourse/enforcement from the existing, but very weak, local laws against animal cruelty.

Venus Doggess Of Love cares about animals and cannot stand to see them suffer. Venus Doggess Of Love is committed to ensuring the best life for as many animals as possible. Thank you for your support.
