I wanted to take a minute and post my memories of Chuck Simmelink after the nice celebration of life this past weekend hosted by his widow Kay Simmelink, and family.
I started in showing halter horses in the paint industry when I was in college, (a LONG time ago) so of course I knew of the Simmelinks and their influence through their stallion Barlink Macho Man. I showed against them when I got my first paint horse and admired their stock immensely.
So when I had the chance to buy a broodmare for my dad, I went to the source in Oregon for amazing horses. We searched through the herd, and when he pointed out a daughter of Obvious Conclusion, in foal to Macho, I jumped on it. Her name was Obvious Della. She was Silver Cash bred on her dams side, and Kay had done lots of research in that line and how it clicked with Macho (eh hem Barlink JK Suecash anyone?).
And while Suzy only gave us solid c**ts with Macho, when we switched to QH and bred her to Playgirls Conclusion she had 2 daughters that would go on to be the dams of:
🏆11 AQHA World or Reserve World Champions, 🥇Congress Grand Champions,
🥈Multiple World Show top tens
🏅Stock show Grand Champions
💰Earners of over 600 halter points
and made us countless friends in the industry.
We will always be greatful for the start in the industry that we achieved through Chuck’s insight into a great broodmare, and that is how you know he was a legendary horseman.
