Paws & Veterans Training service dogs for Veterans. We work with veterans training all levels of CGC (Canine Good Citizen) as a certified AKC evaluator and trainer.

Paws & Veterans was created as a supplement to Loose Leash Dog Training LLC, specifically focused on training dogs for military veterans. We are certified in therapy work by the SPCA Serving Erie County Paws For Love Program. Margo, Bentley, and I have put in 100 visits to the VA Medical Center in Buffalo prior to establishing Paws & Veterans, and all of us are a very devoted team with a mission t

o help the sick, comfort the dying, be of service to sick veterans, and now training service dogs for them. In addition to CGC, we work with veterans who are interested in Agility and Balance, Rally Obedience, and Barn Hunt training. Home base for training is at All Dawgs Academy in North Tonawanda.

Service dogs are a protected service under the American Disabilities Act (ADA). That means that if your dog is trained as a service dog, it will be legally permitted to be by your side in public, even in places that don’t usually allow pets.

Questions about the various ways PTSD manifests. Nightmares are a common symptom of PTSD. Interestingly, training a dog to detect nightmares involves teaching them to recognize odor cues emitted by the individual. It's worth noting that the dog does not receive a food reward in response to nightmares. I came across this information recently. The dog is trained to identify subtle signs that a nightmare is beginning, such as changes in the handler's body chemistry or movements. This training is focused on detecting specific odors that the dog will smell, prompting the alert and comfort response from the dog. If trainer has no experience in odor and training the dog on odor he or she has no business training an alert dog.

A number of calls on service dog training the past weeks. People looking for all the information about the programs through text.
I give out information through the phone only on everything about the service dog programs cost, training, scheduling, type of breeds that work best for the disability etc. I am taking on veterans and civilians as of now. Children not as much depends on the degree of the disability. Watch out for the people saying they are service dog trainers. Two dogs of late that I am retraining the cost they paid for their training was totally ridiculous. Ask a lot of questions before you start training.

The last ten days had to be one of the busiest
days in regard’s to service dog training. I was at an event last night where a friend was present active military and we talked about what is going on in the Middle East presently and dogs. He did say when some of the guys and ladies come back from deployment a number will be leaving the military and the need for a dog will be great. Every call I received last week came from the VA from people that work there. Referrals to others about training a service dog. It is greatly appreciated as more people believe in my training and see how well trained these dogs are. Sue will be training her new lab puppy that she just received in about four months as a service dog and is employed at the VA. The referrals come from veterans that go to the VA for care with their service dog that I have trained. Right now depending on what the person needs (disability) the Lab and Golden retrievers are my top dogs. The big reason is their nose and how fast they can pick up odor off the human body to alert. Congratulations!!

Just a lot of calls of late on servic dog training so going to be more active on this page. I do train vets and non veterans with traumatic brain injuries, PTS, truma, and high levels of anxiety . The need for a dog is great with people that have a disability. You will need documentation from your medical provider before you can start. I will start putting out breeds that I recommend, that is a very common question and the training that is involved. I will be posting less on my Loose Leash Dog Training LLC- Service Dog & Therapy Dog Training on the content about service dogs. Reason being a lot more going on with what is beinig offered when it comes to dog sport training and obedience.
