Hi everyone! I wanted to share an update on Austin. It is with a very heavy heart that I share that we have scheduled to put him down on June 18. This decision was not made lightly, and we're absolutely devastated.
We went away for my 40th birthday last weekend and left him with a sitter. He was already in not the best of shape, but after we picked him up, he went into a steep decline and was essentially unable to stand or walk. He improved slightly the morning after we brought him home, and as a short-term solution, I called the vet to get him a Librela shot. Unfortunately, the vet informed us that neurologically, he was too far gone for a Librela shot, as his back legs are not responding to stimuli as they should. It was then that we decided that putting him down would be the most humane thing to do.
For the last 10 years, Austin has been the best dog that I ever could have hoped for, especially for my first dog that was just mine (and not a childhood family dog). He is impossibly sweet to absolutely everyone, has charmed the pants off anyone he's ever met that's been afraid of pitbulls, and has provided us with so much joy and love. It's definitely going to be a much emptier house without him and we are not looking forward to that.
Thank you all for your support over the years, both before and after his adoption. I especially want to thank everyone that volunteered at the kennel where he lived for 3 years while he was waiting for me to take him home. You all were a big part of raising him right.
I'm sure he won't be my last dog, but he'll always be my soul dog.
